Beach Glass Dress

This cute A-Line Dress is the perfect dress for any little girl! The crochet grit stitch makes this dress sturdy enough for summer playtime.

Skill Level: Easy

Sizes: 0-6 (6-12, 12-18, 18-24)

Materials

Yarn:

Medium Weight Yarn Katia Mali (100% Cotton; 71 yards [65 meters]/50 grams): 21 Mint (Color A, 3 (3, 4, 4) balls, 3 Off-White (Color B, 1 ball)

Hook: US size G/6 (4 mm)

Notions: Removable markers; tapestry needle

Gauge: 18 sts and 17 rows = 4” (10 cm) in Crochet Grit Stitch

Special Stitches

Crochet Grit Stitch (multiple of 2 sts, + 1)

Row 1: Ch as described above, sc in 3rd ch from the hook, *sk next ch, 2 sc in next ch; rep from * until 2 ch rem, sk next ch, sc in the last ch, turn.

Row 2: Ch 1, sc in first st, *sk next st, 2 sc in next st; rep until 1 st rem, sk st and sc into the turning ch, turn.

Rep Row 2 for pattern.

Reverse Single Crochet

Instead of working from right to left, work from left to right.

Row 1: Ch 1, working from left to right, sk first st, insert hook from front to back in next st to the right, yo, pull lp through st,  yo, pull through 2 lps on hook (1 sc made)

Pattern Notes

This dress is worked in two pieces and seamed. Front and Back pieces are worked sideways,and then sewn together.

Back

With Color A, ch 61 (71, 75, 79).

Row 1-2: Begin working Crochet Grit Stitch Rows 1-2. (58 (68, 72, 76) sts)

Rows 3-9: Rep Row 2.

Shape Sides

Dec Row: Ch 1, sc2tog, cont in est Crochet Grit Stitch pattern until 2 sts rem, sk next st, sc in last st. (56 (66, 70, 74) sts)

Rep Dec Row 3 more times.  (50 (60, 64, 68) sts)

Work even in est pattern for 9 rows.

Rep Dec Row 3 more times. (44 (54, 58, 62) sts)

Work even in est pattern for 9 rows.

Rep Dec Row twice more. (40 (50, 54, 58) sts)

Work even in rest pattern until piece measures 11” [23 cm].

Shape Armholes

Next Row: Sl st into first 4 (4, 6, 6) sts, work to last 4 (4, 6, 6) sts, leave rem sts unworked. (32 (42, 42, 46) sts

Dec Row: Ch 1, sc2tog, cont in est Crochet Grit Stitch pattern until 2 sts re, sk next st, sc in last st. (30 (40, 40, 44) sts)

Rep Dec Row once more. (28 (38, 38, 42) sts)

Work even in rest pattern until armhole measures 3½ (4½, 5, 5½)” [9 (11.5, 13, 14) cm].

Fasten off.

Front

Work same as for Back until armhole measures 2½ (3, 3½, 4)” [6.5 (7.5, 9, 10) cm].

Shape Neck

Next Row: Work 6 (11, 12, 14) sts, skip center 16 sts, join a second ball of yarn to last 6 (11, 12, 14) sts, work to end.

Working both sides at same time, working Dec Row at each neck edge once. (4 (9, 10, 12) sts each side)

Work even in est pattern until armhole measures 3½ (4½, 5, 5½)” [9 (11.5, 13, 14) cm].

Fasten off.

Finishing

Sew shoulder seams. Sew side seams.

Neck Edging

With Color B, work 1 Rnd in Rev sc evenly around neck opening.

Armhole Edging

With Color B, work 1 Rnd in Rev sc evenly around each armhole.

Bottom Edging

With Color B, work 1 Rnd in Rev sc evenly around bottom part of dress.

Fasten off. Weave in all ends.yarn ball
