Blueberry Pumpkin Moccasins

These adorable little baby shoes are as cute as they come. From their colorful soles to their tiny tassels, you’ll love stitching these for an autumn baby!

Size: Newborn to 3 mths

Gauge: 19 sts and 20 rows = 4” [10cm] in sc

Materials

Yarn:

Medium weight yarn Lion Brand 24/7 Cotton (100% Cotton; 186 yards [170 meters]/ 100 grams): 133 Tangerine (A), 1 ball; 178 Jade (B) 1 ball; 157 Lemon (C) 1 ball

Hook: US size G/6 (4.0 mm)

Notions: Markers; tapestry needle

Special Stitches

Back Post Single Crochet (bpsc): Insert hook from back to front to back around post of indicated st, yo, pull up loop, yo, pull through both loops on hook.

Pattern Notes

This pattern does not include a right and left – make 2 as written. The soles are made as ovals, beginning by working all the way around the foundation chain.

With A, ch 12.

Rnd 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next 9 ch, 3 sc in last ch, working into bottom of foundation ch, sc in next 9 sts, 2 sc in same ch as first st, join – 24 sts.

Rnd 2: Ch 1, 2 sc in first st, sc in next 9 sts, 2 sc in each of next 3 sts, sc in next 9 sts, 2 sc in each of last 2 sts, join – 30 sts.

Rnd 3: Ch 1, sc in first st, 2 sc in next st, sc in next 9 sts, (sc in next st, 2 sc in next st) 3 times, sc in next 9 sts, (sc in next st, 2 sc in next st) twice, join – 36 sts.

Rnd 4: Ch 1, sc in first st, 2 sc in next st, sc in next 11 sts, (2 sc in next st, sc in next 2 sts) 3 times, sc in next 9 sts, 2 sc in next st, sc in next 2 sts, 2 sc in next st, sc in last st, join and break yarn, place stitch marker in first st of the rnd – 42 sts.

Sides

Switch to B.

Rnd1: Join to marked st of Sole, ch 1, bpsc in each st around, join – 42 sts.

Rnd 2: Ch 1, sc in each st around, join – 42 sts.

Rnd 3: Ch 1, sc in first 13 sts, sc2tog 3 times, sc in next st, place marker in st just made, sc2tog 3 times, sc in last 16 sts, join and break yarn – 36 sts.

Tops

With B, ch 6.

Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in each remaining ch, turn – 5 sts.

Rows 2-5: Ch 1, sc in each st across, turn – 5 sts.

Row 6: Ch 1, sc2tog, sc in next st, sc2tog, turn – 3 sts.

Rnd 7 (border): Ch 1, sc in next 24 sts evenly around entire piece, place a stitch marker in 2nd st made of this rnd (center st of narrow end), join and break yarn – 24 sts.

Finishing

Tassels (optional)

Step 1: With B, cut six 4” lengths of yarn, divide into two sets of 3. Cut one 10” length of yarn.

Step 2: Fold each set of 3 strands in half and lay them on top of the 10” piece with the fold above long yarn and ends below the long yarn. Wrap ends under 10” piece and under fold at the top to tie them to the long length. This is the same move used to add braids to crochet hats.

Step 3: Trim tassel length as desired.

Assembly

Step 1: Match top and sides at marked sts. Use additional stitch markers to secure Top to Sides as needed.

Step 2: Join with B in any st of Side near the heel, ch 1, sc in each st around, going through both Sides and Tops at front of shoe to join, join and break – 36 sts.

Step 3: With C, sl st in each st of previous rnd (Step 2), join and break – 36 sts.

Step 4: With tapestry needle, sew tassels to front of show as shown, using the 10” length to secure. yarn ball
