Robin’s Egg Beanies

Cool spring days call for keeping noggins warm both big and small. Make a matching pair of beanies for you and your little one, and you’ll be the sweetest little pair.

Skill level: Easy

Size: 3 (6, 12, 24) months to fit 14½ (15, 16½, 17½)” head circumference

Gauge: 4 X-Stitches = 2”, 8 sc = 2”, 2 X-Stitch rows and 3 sc rows = 1 ½”

Materials

Yarn:

Medium weight yarn Red Heart Baby Hugs Light (100% Acrylic; 318 yards [290 meters]/127 grams): 3830 Pool, 1 ball.

Hook: US size G/6 (4.0 mm)

Notions: Tapestry needle; removable marker.

Abbreviations

ch – chain

sl st – slip stitch

sc – single crochet

dc – double crochet

Special Stitches

X-Stitch – skip next st, dc in next st, dc in the skipped st.

beg X-Stitch – dc in the st before the joining of last rnd.

Do not join rounds unless directed. Place a removable marker on the first st to indicate beginning of rnd.

Rnd 1: Create magic ring, ch 1, 6 sc in ring, tighten ring – 6 sts.

Rnd 2: Work 2 sc in each st around – 12 sts.

Rnd 3: Sc in first st, *2 sc in next st, sc in next st; rep from * around – 18 sts.

Rnd 4: Sc in first 2 sts, *2 sc in next st, sc in next 2 sts; rep from * around – 24 sts.

Size 3 months only

    Wonder what would happen if I used Red Heart SS in Minty green using the directions for the 24 month size? I am making a scarf in that color right now.

      Hi Anna! I checked with the designer and the hat the mom is wearing in this photo is actually the 24 months size! It looks a little snug, so I would recommend going up a hook size for adult sizing. Hope that helps! – Nicola, Editor
