Rustic Holiday Wreath

Add a bit of cheer to your home’s décor by displaying this quick and easy project on your wall or over your mantle. The gold bow and the red poinsettias are sure to make this a standout display.

Skill Level: Intermediate

Size: Finished wreath 16″ in diameter

Gauge: 23 sts and 30 rows = 4″ [10 cm] in CC using smaller hook

Materials

Yarn: Lion Brand Wool-Ease Thick & Quick (80% acrylic, 20% wool; 106 yards [97 meters]/170 grams): #131 Grass (MC, 1 ball); Filatura Di Crosa New Smoking (65% viscose, 35% polyester; 131 yards [120 meters]/25 grams): #1 Gold (CC, 2 balls); Lion Brand Wool-Ease (80% acrylic, 20% wool; 197 yards [180 meters]/85 grams): #102 Ranch Red (CC2, 1 ball)
Hooks: US size K/10.5 (6.5 mm) and US size H/8 (5.0 mm) hooks
Notions: 16″ extruded foam floral wreath form, gold floral wire, wire cutter, tapestry needle, straight sewing pins, sewing needle, invisible thread

Abbreviations

Picot: Ch 3, sl st in first ch.

Pattern Notes

Wreath form is covered by a series of modified single crochet stitches.
The bow is worked in separate pieces then assembled.
Bow bands (large and small) are stabilized with floral wire which is worked into the 2nd and next to last rows. Wire is omitted in tail section of bow to allow the ends to curl. However, wire can be omitted altogether if desired.

Pattern

Wreath

Using MC, place slipknot on larger hook, attach to wreath form with sl st. Ch 1, then work sc as follow: *Bring yarn through the center of the wreath toward you and yo taking care to keep hook level with outside edge of wreath, then yo as normal and pull through. (1 sc completed) Rep from * 199 more times until wreath form has been completely covered, then join with a sl st in first ch 1.
Next round: Using CC with 2 strands held tog, ch 1, sc in first sc and in each sc around. Join with sl st to first ch 1, FO.

Bow

Large Band
Using CC and smaller hook, ch 116.
Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across, turn.
Row 2: Cut 28″ or [71 cm] piece of gold floral wire and hold on top of first row. Ch 1, sc in first sc and in each sc across taking care to cover floral wire with each st.
Rows 3-17: Ch 1, sc in first sc and in each sc across.
Row 17: Rep row 2.
Row 18: Rep row 3, FO.

Small Band
Using CC and smaller hook, ch 86. Work same as for Large Band except floral wire should be cut to 22″ or [56 cm].

Tails
Using CC and smaller hook, ch 86. Work 12 rows evenly in sc, FO.

Center Band
Using CC and smaller hook, ch 24. Work 12 rows evenly in sc, FO.

Flower (Make 6)

Using CC held 2 strands tog and smaller hook, ch 4 then sl st in first ch to join.
Rnd 1: Ch 3 (counts as dc), 11 dc in ring, change to CC2 (single strand) and sl st in top of ch 3 to join.
Rnd 2: Cont with CC2, *ch 1, dc, tr, picot, tr, dc ch 1 in next st, sl st in next st, rep from * 5 more times then sl st in first ch 1 to join.
Rnd 3: (Note: all ch 3 should fall to the back of the petals made on the previous round.) *Ch 3, skip next petal, sc in next sl st, rep from * 5 more times ending with sl st in base of first ch 3.
Rnd 4: *ch 2, tr, dtr, picot, dtr, tr, ch 2 in next ch-3 sp, sl st in next sc, rep from * 5 more times ending with sl st in base of first ch 2, FO.

Finishing

Seam large and small bands of bow. Twist wire ends tog and trim to 1/2″ or [1 cm]. Stack small band on top of large band with seams facing the back then wrap center band around both pieces and sew ends securely. Fold tail in half and sew to the back of the bow allowing ends to dangle and curl freely.

Insert straight pins into wreath along the last round of stitches about every 2″ or [5 cm] to keep the work from shifting. Weave in all ends. Using sewing needle and invisible thread, attach Bow and Flowers to Wreath. yarn ball
