Caribbean Shells Afghan

The calming oceanic colors flow together to form a perfect beachy afghan.

Skill Level: Easy

Size: 45” x 56”

Gauge: 8 rows: 4 ½”; Fan Shell, sc, Fan Shell, sc: 4”

Materials

Yarn: Red Heart Super Saver (100% acrylic; 160 yards [146 meters]/85 grams): #0706 Perfect Pink (2 skeins), #0512 Turqua (2 skeins), #0530 Orchid (2 skeins), #0313 Aran (2 skeins)
Hook: US Size G/6 (4.5 mm) hook or size needed for gauge

Special Stitches

Fan Shell: (dc, [ch 1, dc] 4 times) in space or stitch indicated.

Pattern

Row 1: With perfect pink ch 134, sc in 2th ch from hook, *skip 2 chs, Fan Shell in next ch, skip 2 chs, sc in next ch, repeat from * across ending with a sc in last ch, turn.
Row 2: Ch 5 (counts as dc, ch 2), *skip next ch 1 space, sc in next ch 1 space, ch 1, sc in next ch 1 space, ch 2, skip next ch 1 space, dc in next sc**, ch 2, repeat from * across ending last rep at **, turn.
Row 3: Ch 1, sc in first dc, *skip next ch 2 space, Fan Shell in next ch 1 space, skip next ch 2 space, sc in next dc, repeat from * across ending with last sc in 3rd ch of turning ch, turn.
Row 4: Repeat Row 2.
Row 5: Repeat Row 3.
Row 6: Repeat Row 2 and fasten off.
Row 7: Join aran with a slip stitch in first stitch, continue with Row 3.
Row 8: Repeat Row 2 and fasten off.

Color Scheme

Continue pattern for a total of 96 rows as follows:
(6 rows perfect pink, 2 rows aran, 6 rows turqua, 2 rows aran, 6 rows orchid, 2 rows aran) 4 times.

Edging

With aran work along top edge Fan Shell in right corner dc, [sc in ch 1 space, Fan Shell in dc] across, Fan Shell in 3rd chain of turning ch.
Work along side edge [sc in first dc, Fan Shell in next dc] across, Fan Shell in first bottom ch.
Work along bottom edge [sc in ch below Fan Shell, Fan Shell in ch below sc] across, Fan Shell in last ch.
Work along side edge [sc in first dc, Fan Shell in next dc] across, join to beginning Fan Shell and fasten off.
Weave in all ends and trim.yarn ball
