Pink Bliss Afghan

This easy afghan features three shades of yarn to please any pink lover. It’s worked in pieces to make for an easily transportable project. Designed by Salena Baca.

Gauge: 1 square = 9″ (23 cm), excluding border

Materials

Yarn:

Medium Weight Yarn Red Heart Super Saver (100% acrylic; 364 yards [333 meters]/198 grams): #718 Shocking Pink (A, 1 skein), #722 Pretty ‘n Pink (B, 1 skein), #3938 Panther Pink (C, 1 skein), #312 Black (D, 1 skein)

Hook: US size I/9 (5.5 mm) hook

Notions: Yarn needle 

Special Stitches

Crossed Double Crochet (X-dc): Skip first 2 dc of next 4-dc group, dc in space between next 2 dc, ch 2, working in front of dc just made, dc in space between 2 skipped dc. 

Pattern Notes

Blanket is made from 16 squares. Each square is edged and then squares are arranged as shown in Assembly Diagram and joined together.

Square (Make 16: 6 each with A & B and 4 with C)

Ch 33.
Row 1 (RS): Work 2 dc in 5th ch from hook (beginning ch count as first dc and skipped ch), 2 dc in next ch, *skip next 2 ch, 2 dc in next 2 ch; repeat from * 5 times, skip next 2 ch, dc in last ch, turn—seven 4-dc groups and 1 dc at each end.
Row 2: Ch 3 (counts as first dc here and throughout), X-dc in each 4-dc group, dc in top of beginning ch, turn. (7 X-dc and 1 dc at each end)
Row 3: Ch 3, 2 dc in each ch of each X-dc across to beginning ch, dc in top of beginning ch, turn. (7 4-dc groups, 1 dc at each end)
Rows 4-13: Repeat last 2 rows 5 times.
Fasten off.
Edging Round: With right side facing, join D with slip st in end of first row, *working in ends of rows, 2 hdc in each row* across first side; working across top edge, (2 hdc, ch 3, 2 hdc) in space between first dc and first 4-dc group (corner made), [4 hdc in space between next two 4-dc groups] 6 times, (2 hdc, ch 3, 2 hdc) in space between last 4-dc group and last dc (corner made); repeat from * to * across other side; working in opposite side of foundation ch, (2 hdc, ch 3, 2 hdc) in space between first ch-2 space (corner made), [4 hdc in next ch-2 space] 6 times, (2 hdc, ch 3, 2 hdc) in last ch-2 space (corner made); join with slip st in first hdc. (12 4-hdc groups, 17 2-hdc groups, 4 ch-3 space corners)
Fasten off. 

Assembly

With right sides facing, arrange all squares as shown in Assembly Diagram.
Horizontal Join (RS): Holding first squares of Strips 1 and 2 with wrong side together and working through both thicknesses, join D with sc in first corner, **ch 2, sc in space between next 2 hdc and first 4-hdc group, *ch 4, sc in space between next two 4-hdc groups; repeat from * 4 times, ch 4, sc in space between last 4-hdc group and next 2 hdc, ch 2, sc in next corner**, ch 2, sc in first corner of next squares; repeat from ** to ** once. Fasten off.
Repeat Horizontal Join to join remaining strips.
Vertical Join (RS): Holding first squares of Columns 1 and 2 with wrong side together and working through both thicknesses, join D with sc in first corner, *ch 2, sc between next two 2-hdc groups; repeat from * to next corner, ch 2, sc in next corner**, ch 2, sc in corner of next square; repeat from * across ending at **. Fasten off.
Repeat Vertical Join to join remaining columns.

Finishing

Border Round (RS): With right side of top edge facing, join D with slip st in first outer corner, (2 hdc, ch 3, 2 hdc) in same corner, working across top edge, **skipping vertical joins, *[4 hdc in space between next 2 hdc groups] across to last corner before next vertical join, 2 hdc in last corner, 2 hdc in first corner of next square; repeat from * across ending last repeat at next outer corner, (2 hdc, ch 3, 2 hdc) in next outer corner; working across side, skipping horizontal joins, [2 hdc in space between next two 2-hdc groups] across to next outer corner**, (2 hdc, ch 3, 2 hdc) in next outer corner; working across lower edge, repeat from ** to ** once; join with slip st in first hdc. Fasten off.
