Mellow Yellow Rug

Pair yellow and blue together to make a rug that will brighten any room in a subtle, warm way. This rug is great in the kitchen, by your front door, and any room in your home.

Skill Level: Intermediate

Size: 18” x 30”

Gauge: 13 sts and 15 rows = 4” [10 cm] in sc.

Materials

Yarn:

Medium Weight Yarn Willow Yarns Cub (60% cotton, 40% Acrylic; 88 yards [80 meters]/50 grams): 0011 Clear Spring (MC), 4 balls; 0006 Afternoon (CC), 4 balls

Hook: US size I/9 (5.5 mm)

Notions: tapestry needle

Special Stitches

Single crochet spike stitch (scs): Insert hook into st 1 row below next st, yo, pull through (2 loops on hook), yo, pull through both loops.

Pattern Notes

This rug is initially worked in rows, then a border is crocheted around the rug. When working 36 sts in the sides of the rug to make the first round, it is suggested to divide the side of the rug into 4 even sections (by dividing it in half 2 times) and then evenly spacing 9 sts in each section.

With MC, ch 73.
Row 1: Sc in bottom loop of 2nd chain from hook, sc in bottom loop of each remaining ch. (72 sc)
Row 2: Ch 1 (does not count as a st here or throughout), sc in each st across.
Row 3: Ch 1, sc in each of next 3 sts, *scs in next st, sc in next st; rep from * until 1 st remain, sc in last st.
Rows 4-5: Switch to CC. Repeat Row 3 twice.
Rows 6-7: Switch to MC. Repeat Row 3 twice.
Rows 8-9: Switch to CC. Repeat Row 3 twice.
Rows 10-11: Switch to MC. Repeat Row 3 twice.
Rows 12-13: Switch to CC. Repeat Row 3 twice.
Rows 14-15: Switch to MC. Repeat Row 3 twice.
Rows 16-17: Switch to CC. Ch 1, sc in each st across.

Beg with MC, repeat Rows 2-17, changing colors as indicated in pattern.

Beg with MC, repeat Rows 2-15 once more, changing colors as indicated in pattern.

Last Row: Ch 1, sc in each st across.

    I could also put the rug on carpeting, such as a doorway to catch some of the dirt off of shoes and puppies’ feet.

    Nice for under kitchen sink, or power room sink, any other room would require a non skid backing
