Halloween Wine Tote

A perfect way to present your gift to the Halloween hostess! This wine tote uses basic crochet stitches to create waves of orange and black.

Skill Level: Beginner

Size: 3.25” wide x 3.25” deep x 14” tall (without handles)

Gauge: 16 sc and 16 rows = 4”/10cm

Materials

Yarn: KnitPicks Brava Worsted (100% acrylic; 218 yards [200 meters]/100 grams): Black (MC, 1 ball), Orange (CC, 1 ball)
Hook: US size G/6 (4.0 mm) hook
Notions: Tapestry needle

Pattern Notes

This pattern is worked in pieces, and seamed at the end.
The base is crocheted in the round, while the sides are worked flat.
To change colors, work final stitch until only two loops remain on hook. Yarn over with new color, and pull through both loops.
Turning chain does not count as first stitch.

Pattern

Base

With MC, ch 4.
Rnd 1: 3 dc in 4th ch from hook, ch 2, *dc 3, ch 2; rep from * twice more, slst in top of first dc to join. (12 dc and 4 ch 2 sp)
Rnd 2: Ch 3, dc in same st, dc in next 2 st, *2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc in ch 2 sp, dc in next 3 sts; rep from * twice more, 2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc in ch 2 space, slst in top of first dc to join. (28 dc and 4 ch 2 sp)
Rnd 3: Ch 3, dc in same st, dc in next 4 st, *2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc in ch 2 sp, dc in next 7 sts; rep from * twice more, 2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc in ch 2 space, dc in next 2 sts, slst in top of first dc to join. (44 dc and 4 ch 2 sp)
Rnd 4: Ch 1, sc in same st, sc in next 6 sts, *3 sc in ch 2 sp, sc in next 11 sts; rep from * twice more, 3 sc in ch 2 sp, sc in next 4 sts, slst in first sc to join. Fasten off. (56 sc)

Sides (Make 4)

With CC, ch 14.
Row 1: Sc in second ch from hook and each ch across. (13 sc)
Row 2: Ch 1, turn, sc in first 3 st, hdc in next 3 st, dc in next 2 st, tc in next 2 st, dc in next st, hdc in last 2 st, change to MC.
Row 3: Ch 3, turn, dc in first 2 st, hdc in next st, sc in next 2 st, hdc in next 2 st, dc in next 3 st, tc in last 3 st.
Row 4: Ch 1, turn, sc in each st across, change to CC.
Row 5: Ch 1, turn, sc in each st across.
Row 6: Ch 1, turn, hdc in first 2 st, dc in next st, tc in next 2 st, dc in next 2 st, hdc in next 3 st, sc in last 3 st, change to MC.
Row 7: Ch 4, turn, tc in first 3 st, dc in next 3 st, hdc in next 2 st, sc in next 2 st, hdc in next st, dc in last 2 st.
Row 8: Ch 1, turn, sc in each st across, change to CC.
Repeat rows 1-8 five more times for a total of 48 rows.
Fasten off.

Assembly

Place two side pieces together. With MC, seam sides together lengthwise using sc. Repeat with all four sides.
With MC, seam base to sides using sc.

Handles (Make 2)

Row 1: With CC at top of bag, sc in middle st of any side. Sc in next 4 sts. (5 sc)
Row 2: Ch 1, turn, sc blo in each st. (5 sc)
Repeat row 2 nineteen more times for a total of 21 rows.
Turn work so adjacent side is facing. Seam handle to side with sc, starting with 2nd st in side.
Fasten off.

Finishing

Weave in all ends.
