Yarn:
Red Heart Soft (100% Acrylic; 256 yards [234 meters]/141 grams): #9520-Seafoam, 1 skein
Hook: US size H/8 (5.0 mm)

Pattern Notes
The scarf is made in short rows.
The ch-3 at the beginning of the row counts as the first dc.
Pattern
Ch 22.
Row 1: Sc in the 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across row – 21 sts.
Row 2: Ch 3, turn, dc in the next 2 sts, sk next 2 sts, (dc, ch 3, dc) in next st, *sk 4 sts, (dc, ch 3, dc) in next st; rep from * once more, sk next 2 sts, dc in the next 3 sts.
Row 3: Ch 3, turn, dc 2, (2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc) in each ch-3 sp across, dc in last 3 sts.
Row 4: Ch 3, turn, dc 2, (dc, ch 3, dc) in each ch-1 sp, dc in last 3 sts.
Row 5: Ch 3, turn, dc 2, (dc, ch 3, dc) in each ch-3 sp, dc in last 3 sts.
Rows 5-79 (or desired length): Rep Rows 3-5.
Row 80: Ch 1, turn, sc in each st. Fasten off, leaving a long tail.
Finishing
Using tapestry needle, sew ends together. Weave in all ends.
I had to add a couple of chains and still had to only sk 3 chains and go into the 4th Ch instead of the 5th to make the first row work. Actually needed 3 extra chains. The rest of the rows worked and I think it will be lovely!
Row 4 and 5 seem to be V stitches using 1dc, ch3,dc. Was that intentional or is there a mistake in Row 5? The rest of the pattern alternates between clusters of VStitches and 2 dc’s with either 1 sc in between or 2 dc’s and 1 or 3sc’s in between if that makes sense?
Since we are supposed to repeat Riws 3-5 over and over I am a little confused! Can you clarify this?

In row 3,4,5 you chain 3 and turn. Then dc2 but doesn’t say what to dc into. Please help. New to me.

You dc into the each of the 2 dc of the previous row. This creates the edge at both ends of each row. Hope this helps you. You’ll be “hooked” on crochet with practice. Enjoy and welcome to the club.

You need to work in the ch-3 sp from row 5 which is the repeat row
The pattern says repeat row 5 not row 4, hope that helps.

No, the ch-1 space is in Row 3, and the Row 4 pattern that goes in the space has a ch-3 instead of a ch-1. Therefore, in Row 5 you put the pattern in a ch-3 space. I think that Row 3 is the tightly spaced row in the picture.
Directions for Row 5 don’t seem correct. There isn’t a ch-1 space if you repeat Row 4. ???
Also wonder if Rows 4 and 5 are both V stitch rows with only one difference, Ch 1 space on Row 4 and ch3 space on Row 5?
