Pattern Notes

To adjust the width of your shawl, work 30 more or fewer initial chain sts, which will change the number sets of [sc, ch 3, sc] by 6. Each set of 6 [sc, ch 3, sc] measures 7½” / 19 cm wide.
To adjust the length of your shawl, work 6 more or fewer rows. 6 rows measures 3¾” / 19 cm. For each set of 6 rows, one repeat of the Border Pattern will be added or removed.
When adjusting the size of your shawl, keep in mind that the amount of yarn needed will need to be adjusted accordingly.
The light grey lines shown between the body and border charts are shown as an example for how the border pattern aligns with the body pattern. They are to be used as an example only, since the exact placement of each stitch of the border set-up row will vary slightly.

Pattern

Body

Ch 120 (150, 210).
Work Set-up Row of Body Pattern—22 (28, 40) sets of [sc, ch-3, sc].
Work Row 1 of Body Pattern 20 times—8 (14, 20) sets of [sc, ch-3, sc] rem; 21 total rows.
Fasten off. Weave in ends.
Block piece to body schematic measurements.
(Note: Blocking before working the border is done to insure that the shape and size of the body is as desired before working the border around the outside edge. I recommend soaking the body of your shawl, laying it on a towel and rolling the towel up with the shawl inside to squeeze out extra water, then thread blocking wires through the edges of the shawl and pin the wires to the indicated measurements on the schematic. Allow the shawl to dry completely before removing pins and wires.)

Border

Join yarn with a slip st into the ch-sp or tr-sp at one corner of the longest edge of the body, work the set-up row of the Border Patt, and then work Rows 1–14. Fasten off.

Finishing

Weave in any remaining ends. Thread blocking wires through the ch-7 sps of Row 14 of the Border Patt and steam block the border.
