High Tide Cardi

When the tide comes in as the sun goes down, you’ll want to have a light cardigan on hand. This is a gorgeous summer cardigan worked in lace weight yarn. The motifs are worked for the bottom edge of the

Abbreviations

Shell: (dc, ch3, dc) in next st.

Tr-shell: (tr, ch3, tr) in next st.

5-tr-cluster: [Wrap yarn around hook twice, insert hook into next tr, wrap yarn hook, pull through, (wrap yarn around hook, pull through 2 loops on hook) twice] 5 times, wrap yarn around hook and pull through all loops on hook.

Tr-block: 4 tr in next ch-sp.

Set-up Row 1: With WS of the motifs facing you, attach yarn to the 5-tr-cluster, ch 6, *sc in ch-9 sp, ch 3, dc in next 5-tr-cluster, ch 3, sc in next ch-7 sp, (ch 3, sc in next ch-5 sp) 8 times, ch 3, sc in next ch-7 sp, ch3, dc in next 5-tr-cluster, ch 3, sc in next ch-11 sp, ch 3, (wrap yarn around hook, insert hook into next 5-tr-cluster, pull yarn through 2 loops on hook) twice, yarn over hook, pull through all loops on hook, ch 3; repeat from * to last 5-tr-cluster, dc in last 5-tr-cluster, turn –  105 (120, 135, 150, 165) ch-3 sp.

Set-up Row 2: Ch 4 (count as tr), 3 tr in same ch-3 sp, * sk next ch-3 sp, ch 2, 4 tr in next ch-3 sp; repeat from * to last ch-3 sp, ch 2, 3tr in last ch-4 sp, tr in 3rd ch, turn – 53 (61, 68, 76, 83) tr-blocks.

Row 1: *Ch 5, sc in next ch-2 sp; repeat from * to last tr-block, ch 5, sc in 3rd ch, turn.
Row 2: Ch 4, 3tr in same ch-5 sp, *ch 2, tr in next ch-5 sp; repeat from * last ch-5 sp, 3 tr in last ch-5 sp, tr in the first ch, turn.

Repeat Rows 1-2 until piece measures 15 (14, 13, 12, 12)”, ending with Row 1.

Right Front

Work as Row 2 on next 11 (13, 14, 16, 18) ch-5 sp, continue working on Rows 1-2 until piece measure 18”, ending with Row 1.

Neck opening for right front

Work as Row 2 on next 6 (7, 7, 8, 9) ch-5 sp, continue working on Rows 1-2 until piece measure 23”, end with Row 1. Fasten off.

Left Front

Work same as Right Front, starting from 11 (13, 14, 16, 18) ch-5 sp on the other side.

Back

Sk next 5 (5, 5, 6, 6) ch-5 sp for armhole, work as Row 2 on next 21 (25, 30, 32, 35) ch-5 sp. Continue working on Rows 1-2 until piece measure 23”, ending with Row 1. Fasten off.

Sleeve (make 2)

Ch 135 (145, 155, 165, 165).

Set-up Row: Sc in 9th ch from hook, *ch 5, sk next 5 ch, sc in next ch; repeat from * to end, turn – 26 (28, 30, 32, 32) ch-5 sp.

Row 1: Ch 4 (count as tr), 3 tr in same ch-sp, *ch 2, 4 tr in next ch-5 sp; repeat from * to last ch-5 sp, 3tr in last ch-5 sp, tr in last ch, turn.
Row 2: *Ch 5, sc in next ch-2 sp; repeat from * to last tr-block, ch 5, sc in the 4th ch, turn.
Rows 3-8: Repeat Rows 1-2.
Row 9 (Increase Row): Ch 4 (count as tr), 3tr in same sp, ch 2, 4 tr in same sp, * ch 2, 4 tr in next ch-5 sp; repeat from * to last ch-5 sp, (4tr, ch 2, 4tr) in last ch-5 sp, turn – 28 (30, 32, 34, 34) tr blocks.
Rows 10-16: Repeat Row 2, then Rows 1-2.
Row 17: Repeat Row 9 – 30 (32, 34, 36, 36) tr blocks.

Row 25: Repeat Row 9 – 32 (34, 36, 38, 38) tr blocks.
Rows 26-31: Repeat Row 2, then Rows 1-2, ending with Row 2. Fasten off.

Finishing

Starting at center back neck, 2 sc in each ch-2 sp, sc in each tr, on the side of the neckline and each front 4 sc in the side of each tr, when you get to the motifs, 5 sc in the ch-11 sp, 4 sc in next ch-7 sp, 2 sc in each of ch-5 sp around the cardigan. Fasten off.

For the edge of the sleeves, 4 sc in each ch-4 sp around. Fasten off.

Front fastener (make 2)

*Ch 3, (wrap yarn around hook, insert hook into the first ch, pull yarn through, wrap yarn around hook, pull through 2 loops on hook) 3 times, wrap yarn around hook and pull through all loops on hook; rep from * 29 times more. Fasten off.

Sew shoulder seams. Sew sleeves in place. Sew sleeve seams. Sew the fasteners at the edge of each front neckline. Weave in all ends. Block cardigan to size.yarn ball
