Leaf Motif Vest

Bring the colors of the season into your wardrobe using this unique crocheted vest. This intermediate pattern has an open front with a V-neckline and is perfect for cool fall days.

Size: Bust Size = 32 (36, 40, 44, 48)” to fit bust 34(38, 42, 46, 50)”

Gauge: 6 dc = 1″ 

Materials

Yarn:

Super fine weight yarn Zitron Trekking XXL (75% superwash wool, 25% nylon; 459 yards [420 meters]/100 grams): #145 (3 (4, 5, 6, 7) balls)

Hooks: US size 0 steel crochet hook size needed to obtain gauge
Notions: Tapestry needle, sewing needle and matching thread, 6- 5/8″ (16 mm) buttons 

Special Stitches

Chains Multiple of 12 + 4

Row 1: Dc in 7th ch from hook, * skip next 2 chs, 5 dc in next ch, skip next 2 chs, dc in next ch, (ch 1, skip next ch, dc in next ch) 3 times; repeat from *. End with skip next 2 chs, 5 dc in next ch, skip next 2 chs, dc in next ch, ch 1, skip next ch, dc in last ch. Turn.
Row 2: Ch 4, * dc in each of next 7 dc, (ch 1, dc in next dc) twice, ch 1; repeat from *. End with dc in 2nd ch. Turn.
Row 3: Ch 5, * skip next dc, dc in each of next 5dc, ch 2, skip next dc, dc in next dc, ch 1, dc in next dc, ch 2; repeat from *. End last repeat with dc in 2nd ch. Turn.

Pattern Notes

This pattern is worked in three pieces, back and two fronts. Since the pattern is reversible, both fronts are worked the same and sewn on to the opposite sides of the back.

Rows 1-50: Work as pattern stitch 10 times, ending the 11th repeat with row 5. Fasten off. 

Armhole Shaping for Sizes Small & Medium
Row 51: Skip next 12 sts attach yarn then work as row 6 the stitch pattern end row without working the last 12 sts.
Rows 52-74: Continue working as pattern stitch 4 times. End 5th repeat with row 4. 

Armhole Shaping for Sizes Large & 1x
Row 51: Skip next 12 sts attach yarn then work as row 6 the stitch pattern end row without working the last 12 sts.
Rows 52-76: Continue working as pattern stitch 5 times then row 6 and 1.

Row 51: Skip next 24 sts attach yarn then work as row 6 the stitch pattern end row without working the last 24 sts.

Back Neck Shaping for Sizes Small & Medium
Rows 75-79: Work rows 5-6 on next 36 sts then rows 2-4. Fasten off.

Rows 77-81: Work rows 2-3 on next 48 sts then rows 2-4. Fasten off.

V-Neck Shaping for Size Small
Row 42: Ch 3, * dc in each of next 7 dc, (ch 1, dc in next dc) twice, ch 1; repeat from *. End with dc in 2nd ch. Turn.
Row 43: Ch 5, * skip next dc, dc in each of next 5 dc, ch 2, skip next dc, dc in next dc, ch 1, dc in next dc, ch 2; repeat from *. End last repeat with dc in each of next 5 dc. Turn.

For Size Small
Row 58-80: Continue working as pattern stitch ending with row 5. Fasten off.

For Size Medium
Row 58-65: Repeat row 44-51.
Row 66-80: Continue working as pattern stitch ending with row 5. Fasten off. 

For Size Large
Work same as size small except that you will have 48 sts for the shoulder. Fasten off at the end of row 81.

For Sizes 1x, 2x
Work same as size medium. Fasten off at the end of row 82. 

Finishing

Sew shoulder seams. Sew side seams. 

Armhole Finishing

Rnd 1: With RS facing you, attach yarn to the center of underarm, sc in every st to the corner, 2 sc in the side of each dc until you reach the other side of underarm. Sc in every st to the beginning of the rnd.
Rnds 2-4: Sc in every sc around.
Rnd 5: Work reverse sc in every sc around. Fasten off. 

Buttonhole Band

Rnd 1: With RS facing you, attach yarn to the center of back neck, sc in every st to the edge of shoulder, 2 sc in the side of each dc until you reach the left front corner, 2 sc in corner st (mark this st), sc in every st at the bottom edge until you reach the right front corner, 2 dc in the corner st (mark this st), 2 sc in the side of each dc until you reach the edge of the back neck, sc in every st until you reach the first st. Sl st into the first sc.
Rnds 2-3: Sc in every sc around. Work 2 sc in the marked st.
Rnd 4 (Buttonhole rnd): Work same as rnd 3 until you reach the right front edge. Sc in next 33 sts, (ch 3, skip next 2 sts, sc in each of next 9sc) 6 times, sc in every sc to end.
Rnds 5-7: Work same as rnd 2.
Rnd 8: Reverse sc in every sc around. Fasten off.
Weave in all ends.
Block vest to size.
Sew buttons opposite buttonholes. yarn ball
