Orange Creamsicle Sweater

Dress up your little one in this cozy autumn pullover. Crafted with a unique cable stitch down the center of the design, this pattern puts a unique twist on the traditional sweater.

Skill Level: Intermediate

Size: 6 (12, 18) months; Finished chest: 18 (20, 21)

Gauge: 15 sts and 9 rows in dc = 4” square

Yarn: Yarn Bee Andes Alpaca (70% acrylic, 30% alpaca; 102 yards [93 meters]/85 grams): #742 Haiku (Color A, 3 skein), #704 Biscuit (Color B, 1 skein)
Hook: US size F/5 (3.75 mm) hook or size needed to obtain gauge

Fpdc: Front post double crochet
Bpdc: Back post double crochet
Fptr: Front post treble crochet

Pattern Notes

Sweater is made in 2 panels, sewn together at shoulder and sides to create the body. The sleeves are made directly onto the body, not sewn on. The collar is made directly onto the body, not sewn on.
The body (front and back) are made in rows. The sleeves are made in joined rounds.
Instead of using a chain for the beginning, you can foundation single crochet.

Pattern

Size 6 months – Front

Using Color A, ch 32.
Row 1: Sc in first chain and in each across. (31 sts)
Row 2: Turn, ch 2, hdc in first st and in each across. (31 sts)
Row 3: Turn, ch 1, sc in each st across.
Row 4: Turn, ch 3 (counts as first dc here and throughout), dc in each st across.
Row 5: Turn, ch 3, dc 10, fptr 9, dc 11.
Row 6: Turn, ch 3, dc 10, bptr 9, dc 11.
Row 7: Turn, ch 3, dc 10, working over the next 9 sts (fpdbtr on 4, 5, 6, turn, bpdbtr 1, 2, 3, turn, fpdbtr 7, 8, 9) dc 11.
Row 8: Repeat Row 6.
Row 9: Turn, ch 3, dc 10, working over the next 9 sts (fpdbtr 1, 2, 3, 7, 8, 9, 4, 5, 6), dc 12.
Row 10: Repeat Row 6.
Row 11: Repeat Row 7.

Using Color A, ch 34.
Row 1: Turn, sc in the first chain and in each across. (33 sts)
Row 2: Turn, ch 2, hdc in first st and in each across.
Row 3: Turn, ch 1, sc in each st.
Rows 4-18: Turn, ch 3, dc in each st. Fasten off. Weave in ends.
Lay right sides together. Using yarn needle, sew each side together leaving top 8 sts unsewn for arm holes. Next, sew the top 8 stitches in from each side. Fasten off. Weave in ends.

Sleeves (Repeat on Each Side)

Join Color A at seam at bottom of arm hole. Using the ends of rows as sts.
Rnd 1: * 2 dc, dc in next st, repeat from * to complete round, sl st to first st to join. (26 sts)
Rnds 2-16: Ch 2, dc in each st, sl st to first st to join. (26 sts)
Rnd 17: Join Color B, drop Color A, ch 2, dc in each st, sl st to first st to join. (26 sts)
Rnds 18-19: Repeat Round 17.
Fasten off. Weave in ends.

Collar

Join Color B at front left of cable in first dc st. Ch 1, working around the back of the sweater, sc to opposite side of cable.
Rows 2-6: Turn, ch1, sc in each st. Fasten off. Weave in ends.

Size 12 months – Front

Using Color A, ch 34.
Row 1: Sc in first chain and in each across. (33 sts)
