Pattern Notes

The Case is worked as a rectangle then folded over and seamed. Edging is added to seamed edges.

Case can be adjusted as needed.  Linen stitch sequence is worked in any even number multiple.  Simply add more starting chains to make case wider, or less chains to make it narrower (an eye glasses case for example). To adjust height, work more or less rows of linen stitch rectangle.

When working striped pieces (especially multiple colors), you can carry yarn over the rows or cut yarn and weave in ends as you go.  This will save time weaving in all of those ends later.

Pattern

Note: Each row is worked in a different color.
With C1, ch 34 (multiple of any even number)

Row 1: With C2, sc in the 2nd ch from the hook, *ch 1, skip 1 ch, sc in the next ch; rep from * to last ch.

Row 2: Ch 1, turn. With C3, sc in the first sc, sc in the ch-1 sp, *ch 1, sc in the ch-1 sp; rep from * to last ch-1 sp, sc in the last sc.

Row 3: Ch 1, turn. With C4, sc in the first st, ch 1, *sc in the ch-1 sp, ch 1; rep from * to last ch-1 sp, sc in the last st.

Rep Rows 2-3 until rectangle meas approximately 8” from beginning ch. Fasten off. Weave in any ends.

Heart Applique

Ch 4, join with a slip stitch to form a ring.

Round 1: (Dc, tr, dc, sl st, dc, tr, dc, work 3 sc, tr, work 3 sc) all into ring, join with sl st to close heart.  Fasten off.  Weave in ends.

Finishing

Weave in all ends. Fold left edge of rectangle over to meet the right edge of rectangle.  Be sure edges line up with one another. Before seaming case, sew heart applique to front of case in desired location with matching yarn.

To seam case, tie yarn into both layers of bottom left corner. Work a slip stitch seam across bottom edge, then up the right side of the case. Fasten off at the top right corner of case and cut yarn. Tie on new yarn at the bottom left corner and chain 3. Work 2 dc in the first st, *skip the next st, work 3 dc in the next st; rep from * across bottom edge, the up the right side of case. Without breaking yarn, work a sl st in each st around the top edge of case opening to add sturdiness to the case opening. Fasten off and weave any remaining ends.

  • I may put a draw string on it, to close & also could be used for hanging.

Very cute. I was always scratching up my shades because I had no place to put them in my car. I am going to attach a “handle” to hang it from someplace in my car. Don’t worry. I’ll figure it out! Thank you!!!
