Love Will Find a Way Pillow

Stripes and Bobbles create a fun visual texture in this decorative pillow that celebrates love. The pieces of this pillow are crocheted together, so there is no sewing to finish. Buttons on the back allow for the pillow insert to be removed and the cover to be washed.

Time: Weekend Project

Skill Level: Intermediate

Size: Finished Size fits 12” x 20” pillow form

Gauge: 14 sts and 17 rows = 4” [10 cm]

LOVE” is 54 sts wide and 23 rows tall

Materials

Medium weight yarnYarn: Premier Anti-Pilling Everyday Worsted (100% anti-pilling acrylic; 180 yards [165 m]/100 grams): #ED100-06 Baby Pink (MC, 2 balls), #ED100-66 Burgundy (CC, 1 ball)

Hook: US size I/9 (5.5 mm) or size needed to obtain gauge

Notions: Tapestry needle, two 1” buttons (shanks not holes work best), 12” x 20” pillow form

Special Stitches

3 double crochet cluster (3dcCL): [Yo, insert hook in indicated st or sp, yo, pull up a lp, yo and draw through 2 lps on hook] 3 times, yo and draw through remaining 4 lps on hook.

4 double crochet cluster (4dcCL): [Yo, insert hook in indicated st or sp, yo, pull up a lp, yo and draw through 2 lps on hook] 4 times, yo and draw through remaining 5 lps on hook.

Reverse single crochet (Rev sc): Working in the opposite (reverse) direction than normal, insert hook into next st, yo, pull up a lp, yo, pull thru 2 lps on hook.

Pattern Notes

This project is worked in rows in 3 pieces, then the pieces are crocheted together and a reverse single crochet edging is worked to create a clean edge.

All bobble stitches are worked on wrong-side rows so that the bobbles will “pop” to the right-side of the finished fabric. Each bobble cluster is framed with a single crochet in the stitch before and after.

The 12 bobble stitch rows are worked in a different color than the rows between. Yarn is cut at the end of each row in the bobble stitch section so that all main color rows are right-side rows and all bobble stitch rows are wrong-side rows. Crochet over the beginning and ending tails of the previous row to reduce the amount of weaving in needed at the end.

Finishing

Assembly:

Weave in all tails to WS of fabric for Front and Backs making sure not to obscure stitches on edges, you will be working into those as you crochet them together.

Lay Front of Pillow RS down on a flat surface. Place Back Bottom on Front with wrong sides together to left-hand side of Front, matching stitches from corners toward center on top and bottom edges.

Place Back Top over other 2 pieces on right-hand side of Front with an overlap of Back Bottom in center so buttonholes are on RS of fabric. Pin pieces together making sure to match up corners and top and bottom edge stitches. Overlap in center should be 5 stitches.

Edging:

Rnd 1 attaches all 3 pieces together, each st is worked through all layers.

Rnd 1: With RS of Front facing and bottom edge up, attach CC with a sl st in 4th st to right of bottom right corner, ch 1, sc in same st as join, work sc in each st to next corner,

*ch 2 and turn to work down row-ends, sc in next 5 row-ends, [sk next row, sc in next 4 row-ends] 8 times, sk next row, sc in last 5 row-ends,* ch 2 and turn to work along top of pieces, sc in each st to next corner, rep from * to * once, ch 2 and turn to work along remaining sts on bottom edge, sc in each st, join with sl st to first sc of rnd. (224 sc total, 4 ch-2 sp; 70 sc along top and bottom edges, 42 sc along sides)

Rnd 2 (rope edging): Ch 1, Rev sc in each st and ch-sp around, join with sl st to first Rev sc.
Fasten off and weave in ends.

Sew buttons to Back Bottom to match up with buttonholes on Back Top. Insert pillow form.
