Broken Chevron Filet Scarf

Filet crochet is fun because you’re building a picture with double crochet blocks. This scarf features an all-over broken chevron pattern and a simple picot edging to finish things off.

Skill Level: Intermediate

Size: 21.25” width x 89” length

Gauge: 21 sts x 10.5 rows = 4” [10 cm] in double crochet after wet blocking using smaller hook

Materials

Fine weight yarnYarn: Universal Yarn Bella Cash (60% Superwash Fine Merino, 30% Nylon, 10% Cashmere; 230 yards [210 meters]/50 grams): 121 Cabernet (6 balls)

Hook: US size D/4 (3.5 mm)

Special Stitches

Solid Square: If worked on top of another Solid Square, dc in each of the next 3 dc. If worked on top of an Empty Square, work 2 dc in ch-2 sp, dc in next dc.

Empty Square: If worked on top of a Solid Square, ch 2, sk next 2 dc, dc in next dc. If worked on top of another Empty Square, ch 2, sk ch-2 sp, dc in next dc.

This stole is worked from one end to the other in filet crochet.

Pattern

Ch 114.

Row 1: Dc in fourth ch from hook and each ch across, turn. Counts as Row 1 of Chevrons chart. (112 dc)

Row 2: Ch 3 (counts as dc), dc in next 3 dc, [ch 2, sk next 2 dc, dc in next dc] to last 3 dc, dc in last 3 dc, turn. Counts as Row 2 of Chevrons chart.

Note: Always ch 3 at the beginning of a row. This counts as the first dc. Turn after every row.

Rep Rows 3-20 of Chevrons chart 9 times.

Work Rows 21-26 of Chart.

Edging

Row 1: Ch 1, sc in same st, [ch 3, sk next 2 dc, sc in next dc] to end, turn.

Row 2: Ch 1, sc in same st, *[3 dc, ch 1, 3 dc] in next ch-3 sp, sc in next ch-3 sp; rep from * to last ch-3 sp, [3 dc, ch 1, 3 dc] in ch-3 sp, sc in last sc, turn.

Row 3: Ch 1, sc in same st, *ch 3, [sc, ch 3, sc] in next ch-1 sp, ch 3, sc in next sc; rep from * to end.

Fasten off.

Rep Edging Rows 1-3 on beg-ch edge.

Finishing

Weave in ends.

Wet block, stretching to open up lace.
