Autumn Leaf Shawl

Inspired by red fall leaves, this delicate yet warm shawl is the perfect little cover up for when the weather changes and layers are in order.

Skill Level: Intermediate

Size: 50” x 26”

Gauge: 5 pattern repeats/12 rows = 4”

Materials

Yarn: Dream in Color Wisp (50% silk, 50% merino wool; 550 yards [503 meters]/57 grams): #601 Rose Anguish (2 skeins)
Hook: US size 3.0 mm hook
Notions: Tapestry needle, split ring stitch marker

Beginning mixed stitch v: (hdc, dc, ch 2, dc, hdc, sc) in designated space or st

Pattern Notes

This shawl is worked from center top down, with edging worked continuously after main body portion is completed.
Increases occur at both edges and center spine on differing pattern rows.
Columns of post stitches organically grow from both edges as well as center spine of shawl.
Place split ring stitch marker at center spine ch-3 sp, moving it each row to indicate shawl center.

Pattern

Ch 5, sl st in first ch to form ring.
Row 1: Ch 3 (counts as hdc, ch 1), hdc, *ch 1, hdc in ring. Rep from * 3 more times. Turn. (6 hdc, 5 ch-1 sps)
Row 2 (RS): Ch 2, begpuffclstr in first ch-1 sp, puffclstr in next ch-1 sp, (sl st, ch 5, sl st) in next ch-1 sp, puffclstr in next ch-1 sp, puffclstr in beg ch-3 sp. Turn. (4 ch-2 sps, 1 ch-5 sp)

Row 1: Ch 3, *sc in next ch-2 sp, ch 3, bptr around next tr, ch 3. Rep from * to center spine, bptr around dc, ch 3, bptr around next dc, ch3. Rep from * across rest of row, ending with sc in final ch-2 sp. Turn.
Row 2: Ch 2, puff in next sc, *ch 2, (fptr, ch 2, fptr) around next tr, ch 2, puff in next sc. Rep from * to center spine, ch 2, (fptr, ch 2, fptr) around next tr, ch 3, (fptr, ch 2, fptr) around next tr, ch 2, puff in next sc. Rep from * across rest of row, ending with puff in final sc. Turn.
Row 3: Ch 1, *sc in next puff, sk next ch-2 sp, emxdstv in next ch-2 sp, sk next ch-2 sp. Rep from * to center spine, emxdstv in ch-3 sp, emxdstv in next ch-2 sp. Rep from * across rest of row, ending with sc in top of initial puff. Turn.

Top Edge

Ch 2, puff in base of side edging row 2, ch 2, puff in base of side edging row 1, *ch 2, puff in next body row edge ch-2 sp. Rep from * across to center spine, working (puff, ch 2) at right edge of row 1, center ring, and left edge of row 1. Rep from * across rest of top of shawl, ending with ch 2, puff in base of side edging row 1, ch 2, puff in base of side edging row 2, ch 2, sl st in top of initial ch-2 of side edging row 4. Fasten off.

Finishing

Weave in ends. Wet block to measurements.
