River Wash Wrap

The River Wash wrap is a rectangular shawl worked from the center out in both directions. Designed in an effort to marry traditional technique and trending style, crocheters will recognize the granny stitch but will have never seen it used this way. Add in the transition from deep indigo to inky black and you get a practical, stylish and edgy wrap perfect for any season.

Skill Level: Easy

Finished Size: 120” x 16”

Gauge: 11 dc and 3 ch-1 spaces x 6 rows = 4” [10 cm] in pattern stitch before blocking

Materials

Light weight yarnYarn: Lion Brand LB Collection Cotton Jeans (100% Cotton; 218 yards [200 meters]/ 100 grams): Black (CA, 2 balls), Grey Fade (CB, 1 ball), Sunbleached (CC, 1 ball), Classic Indigo (CD, 1 ball), Deep Indigo (CE, 2 balls)

Hook: US Size I/9 (5.5mm)

Notions: Locking stitch markers, scissors, tapestry needle

Pattern Notes

Beginning ch 4 counts as dc + ch 1.

Beginning ch 3 counts as dc.

Work all beginning chains loosely.

Row 1: Make magic ring with CA, ch 4, (3 dc, ch 1) 2 times, dc. Pull loop of magic ring closed.

Row 2: Ch 4, turn, dc 3 in first ch-1 sp, ch 1, (dc 3, ch 2, dc 3) in next ch-1 sp, ch 1, (dc 3, ch 1, dc) in tch sp.

Rows 3-20: Ch 4, turn, dc 3 in first ch-1 sp, ch 1, *dc 3 in next ch-1 sp, ch 1; rep from * to ch-2 sp, (dc 3, ch 2, dc 3) in ch-2 sp, ch 1, **dc 3 in next ch-1 sp, ch 1; rep from ** to tch, (dc 3, ch 1, dc) in tch sp.

Row 21: Rep Row 3, placing marker in beg tch.

Side A

Row 1: With CA, ch 4, turn, dc 3 in first ch-1 sp, ch 1, *dc 3 in next ch-1 sp, ch 1; rep from * to ch-2 sp, dc in ch-2 sp.

Row 2: Ch 4, turn, sk ch-1 sp and 3 dc, *dc 3 in next ch-1 sp, ch 1; rep from * to tch, (dc 3, ch 1, dc) in tch sp.

Row 3: Ch 4, turn, dc 3 in first ch-1 sp, ch 1, *dc 3 in next ch-1 sp, ch 1; rep from * to tch, dc in 3rd ch of tch.

Rows 4-13: With CB, rep Rows 2-3 of Side A.

Rows 14-23: With CC, rep Rows 2-3 of Side A.

Rows 24-33: With CD, rep Rows 2-3 of Side A.

Rows 34-43: With CE, rep Rows 2-3 of Side A.

Row 44-61: Ch 4, turn, sk ch-1 sp and 3 dc, *dc 3 in next ch-1 sp, ch 1; rep from * to tch, dc in 3rd ch of tch.

Row 62: Ch 4, turn, sk ch-1 sp and 3 dc, (dc 3 in next ch-1 sp, ch 1) 2 times, dc in 3rd ch of tch.

Row 63: Ch 4, turn, sk ch-1 sp and 3 dc, dc 3 in next ch -1 sp, ch 1, sk 3 dc, dc in 3rd ch of tch.

Row 64: Ch 3, turn, sk ch-1 sp and 3 dc, dc in 3rd ch of tch.

Fasten off.

Side B

With CA, join yarn in marked tch sp with sl st. Rep Rows 1-64 of Side A.

Finishing

Block lightly. Weave in all ends.

    are you sure its a rectangle? I am following the patterns and mine is a triangle. Am I doing something wrong?

    Is this a triangle? I can’t tell from the photos and there is no black-and-white diagram to show the piece.
