Sassy tasseled flower earrings that can be color coordinated to match any outfit. These are great to make for quick gifts and to experiment with colors and beads with your crochet.

Size: ⅞” wide x 3⅛” long, excluding top bead and ear wire
Gauge: Gauge not important to design
Yarn: Size #10 cotton crochet thread: 8 yards in dark color (A), 6 yards in light color (B)
Hook: US size 7 (1.65 mm) steel crochet hook
Notions: 2 seed beads for flower center, 2 accent beads in desired colors, a pair of earring wires, 3½” square cardboard, large eye sewing needle, scissors
Cluster stitch (cl st): [Yo, insert hook in indicated st, yo, pull up lp, yo, pull through 2 lps] 3 times, yo, pull through all lps on hook.
Single crochet join (sc-join): With lp on hook, insert hook in indicated st, yo, pull up lp, yo, draw through both lps on hook.
Front Post Single Crochet (fpsc): Insert hook from front to back to front around indicated st, yo, pull up lp, yo, pull through both lps on hook.
Weave in ends as work progresses.
Earring (Make 2)
Rnd 1: With B, make a slip ring, [ch 2 (counts as 1 hdc), (cl st, hdc, sl st) in ring] 5 times, join in top of beg ch-2. Fasten off. (5 cl sts, 10 hdc, 5 sl sts)
Rnd 2: Leaving a 6” tail of A, sc-join in cl st at top of any petal, ch 2, sk next hdc, dc in ring in same place and working over next sl st, [ch 2, sk next hdc, sc in cl st at top of next petal, ch 2, sk next hdc, dc in ring over next sl st] around, ch 2, join in top of beg sc. (5 sc, 5 dc, 10 ch-2 sps)
Rnd 3: Ch 1 (does not count as st), fpsc around post of first sc, 2 sc in first ch-2 sp, fpsc around post of next dc, 2 sc in next ch-2 sp, [fpsc around post of next sc, 2 sc in next ch-2 sp, fpsc around post of next dc, 2 sc in next ch-2 sp] around, join in top of beg sc. Fasten off leaving a 9” tail.
Thread 9” tail through needle, weave needle through sts on WS of earring to first petal tip, bring needle to RS between front and back lps of fpsc at top of petal, thread needle through large bead, through earring wire, and back through bead, pull firmly and knot on WS of flower to secure.
Use needle to weave 6” tail through WS of earring to center, insert needle through center opening to RS, thread needle through seed bead and back through center to WS. Knot to secure.
Tassel: Wrap one strand of B 10 times around cardboard square. Tie one end of tassel with a 6” strand of A. Remove tassel from cardboard. Thread tie ends through bottom of earring between bottom 2 petals and knot to secure. Wrap a 6” strand of A around top of tassel approximately ¼” under top of tassel. Knot ends on WS of tassel. Use needle thread ends up through WS of tassel and bottom of earring. Knot ends tightly to secure.
