Worked lengthwise, this simple lacework paneled afghan is reminiscent of Aran fisherman style but with a more contemporary feel. The panels are worked alternating the three lace designs as well as varying panel widths from narrow to wide. Added fringe adds to the older feel of this design.

Skill Level: Intermediate

Size: Approximately 53” x 70” (unfringed)

Gauge: 4 sts and 6 rows = 4” [10 cm] in Vst; 4 sts and 6 rows = 4” [10 cm] in (ch 1, 2 dc); 6 sts and 8 rows = 4” [10 cm] in (sc, ch 3)

Yarn:

Medium Weight Yarn Red Heart With Love (100% Acrylic; 370 yards [338 meters]/198 grams): 1562 Jadeite, 6 balls

Hook: US size J/10 (6.0 mm)

Notions: Tapestry needle

Special Stitches

V stitch (Vst) – (dc, ch 1, dc) in same st.

Pattern Notes

Always change to a new yarn skein at the end of the row, leaving a long tail that will blend in with the fringe, and you will have no ends to weave!

Row 1 (RS): Dc in 4th ch from hook, dc in each ch across, turn – 206 dc.

Row 2 (WS): Ch 3, Fpdc around next 204 dc, dc in last st, turn – 204 Fpdc, 2 dc.

Row 3: Ch 3, sk 1 st, Vst in next st, *sk 2, Vst in next st; rep from * across until 5 sts rem, sk 2, Vst in next st, sk 1, dc in last st, turn – 68 Vst.

Rows 4-6: Ch 3, *Vst in ch-1 sp of next Vst; rep from * across, dc in last st, turn – 68 Vst.

Row 7: Ch 3, dc in each st and ch sp across, turn – 206 dc.

Row 8: Rep Row 2

Row 9: Ch 3, *2 dc in next st, ch 1, sk 2; rep from * across to last 3 sts, dc in last st, turn – 68 2-dc sets.

Rows 10-16: Ch 3, *2 dc in ch-1 sp, ch 1; rep from * across, dc in last st.

Rows 17-18: Rep Rows 7-8.

Row 19: Ch 1, sc in same st, *ch 3, sk 1 st, sc in next st; rep from * across to last st, hdc in last st.

Row 20: Ch 1, sc in same st, *ch 2, sc in next ch-3 sp; rep from * across to last st, hdc in last st.

Row 21: Ch 1, turn, sc in same st, *ch 3, sc in next ch-2 sp; rep from * across to last st, hdc in last st.

Row 22: Rep Row 20

Rows 23-24: Rep Rows 7-8.

Row 25: Rep Row 3.

Rows 26-32: Rep Row 4.

Rows 33-34: Rep Rows 7-8.

Rows 36-38: Rep Row 10.

Rows 39-40: Rep Rows 7-8.

Row 41: Rep Row 19.

Rows 42-47: Rep Row 20-21, 3 times

Row 48: Rep Row 20.

Rows 49-50: Rep Rows 7-8.

Rows 51-88: Rep Rows 3-40.

Fasten off.

Finishing

Cut yarn into 12 inch long strips, fold in half and tie to edge of rows, creating fringe.
