Harvest Splendor Cowl

A beautiful way to acknowledge the changing season, the Harvest Splendor Cowl blends fall colors and wheatsheaf arches to create a lovely autumn neckwarmer. It’s perfect to wear on hayrides, trips to the pumpkin patch or visits to the cider mill.

Gauge: 18sts x 12 rows = 4” [10 cm] in pattern

Materials

Yarn:

Fine weight yarn Cascade 220 Superwash Sport (100% superwash merino wool; 136 yards [124 meters]/50 grams): #823 Burnt Orange (MC, 1 ball), #877 Gold (CC1, 1 ball), #858 Ginger (CC2, 1 ball), #803 Royal Purple (CC3, 1 ball)
Hook: US size G/6 (4.0 mm) hook
Notions: Removable stitch markers, tapestry needle

Abbreviations

Sl st: Slip stitch
Ch sp: Chain space
Rsc: Reverse single crochet

Special Stitches

Reverse Single Crochet: Work left to right. Insert hook in next stitch to right of the stitch just worked, complete as single crochet.

Pattern Notes

The pattern is worked in the round from the bottom up.
The borders are added to both top and bottom after working the cowl. 

Pattern

With MC, ch 90. Being careful not to twist work, join with sl st to first ch.
Rnd 1: Ch 1, sc into same st, sc in next st, * ch 3, sk 2 sts, sc in next 3 sts, repeat from * until last 3 sts, ch 3, sk 2 sts, sc in last st, join with sl st in first sc.
Rnd 2: Ch1, sc in same st, sk 1 st, 3 dc into ch3 sp, place marker in last dc worked, 2 dc into same ch 3 sp, *sk 1 st, sc in next st, sk 1 st, 5 dc into ch 3 sp, repeat from * to last st, sk 1 st, join with sl st in first sc. Fasten off.
Rnd 3: With CC1, sc in marked st, sc in next st, *ch 3, sk 3 sts, sc in next 3 sts, repeat from * until last 4 sts, ch 3, sk 3 sts, sc in last st, join with sl st in first sc.
Rnd 4: Ch 1, sc in same st, sk 1 st, 5 dc in ch 3 sp, *sk 1 st, sc in next st, sk 1 st, 5 dc into ch 3 sp, repeat from * until last 8 sts, sk 1 st, sc in next st, sk 1 st, 3 dc into ch 3 sp, place marker in last dc worked, 2 dc into same ch3 sp, sk 1 st, join w/ sl st in first sc. Fasten off.

Top Border

Rnd 1: With CC3, sc in marked st, sc in next st, *ch 2, sk 3 sts, sc in next 3 sts, repeat from * until last 4 sts, ch 3, sk 3 sts, sc in last st, join with sl st in first sc.
Rnd 2: Ch 1, sc in same st, sc in next st, *2 sc in ch 2 sp, sc in next 3 sts, repeat from * to last ch 2 sp, 2 sc in ch 2 sp, sc in next st, join with sl st in first sc. (90 sc)
Rnd 3: Ch 1, rsc in each st around, joining with sl st in first sc. Fasten off.

Bottom Border

Rnd 1: Turn work upside down. Working into bottom of beginning ch rnd, sc in each sc and 2 sc in each ch 2 sp around, join with sl st in first st. (90 sc)
Rnd 2: Ch 1, rsc in each st around, joining with sl st in first rsc. Fasten off.

Finishing

Remove all stitch markers, weave in ends. yarn ball
