Ocean Mist Filet Crochet Wrap

This wonderful wrap is worked in a beautiful filet lace pattern as light as the mist off the waves. The beauty of the pattern is that the top and bottom edges of the wrap are worked in triangular motifs that create a delicate gorgeous shape. Floaty and ethereal, pair this wrap with a lightweight dress for an effortlessly beachy ensemble.

Size: Approx. 60 X 15”

Gauge: 28 sts and 11 rows = 4” [10 cm] in double crochet (dc) after wet blocking

Materials

Super fine weight yarnYarn: Knit Picks Lindy Chain (70% Linen, 30% Pima Cotton; 180 yards [165 meters] / 50 grams): 27002 Clarity (5 balls)

Hook/Needles: US size D (3.125 mm)

Abbreviations

Beg tr-cluster: Ch 3, * yo twice, insert hook in same sp, yo, pull up a lp, (yo, pull through 2 lps on hook) twice; rep from * once more in same sp, with 3 lps on hook, yo, pull through all lps on hook.

3-tr- Cluster: [Yo twice, insert hook in next sp, yo, pull up a lp, (yo, pull yarn through 2 lps on hook) twice] 3 times in same sp, yo, pull through all 4 lps on hook.

Ch-3-picot: Ch 3, sl st into third ch from hook.

Pattern Notes

The body of the shawl (Filet Crochet part) is worked first then motifs are added at both ends.

Pattern

Ch 110.

Row 1: Dc in 8th ch from hook (skipped chs count as beginning dc plus ch-2), *ch 2, skip next 2 ch, dc in next ch; rep from * to end. Turn. (36 dc)

Row 2: Ch 3 (counts as dc here and throughout), 2 dc in next ch-2 sp, * dc in next dc, 2 dc in next ch-2 sp, dc in next dc, ch 2, sk next ch-2 sp, dc in next dc, 2 dc in next ch-2 sp; rep from * to last 2 dc and ch-sp, dc in next dc, 2 dc in ch-2 sp, dc in last dc. Turn. (11 ch-2 sps, 84 dc)

Row 3: Ch 3, dc in each of next 3 dc, * ch 5, sc in next ch-2 sp, ch 5, sk next 3 dc, dc in each of the next 4 dc**, ch 2, sk ch-2 sp, dc in each of next 4 dc; rep from * across ending last repeat at **. Turn. (12 ch-5 sps, 5 ch-2 sps)

Row 4: Ch 3, dc in next dc, * (ch 5, sc in next ch-5 sp) twice, ch 5, sk next 2 dc, dc in next 2 dc**, ch 2, sk ch-2 sp, dc in each of next 2 dc; rep from * across ending last repeat at **. Turn. (18 ch-5 sps)

Row 5: Ch 3, dc in next dc, 2 dc in next ch-5 sp, * ch 5, sc in next ch-5 sp, ch 5, 2 dc in next ch-5 sp, dc in each of next 2 dc**, ch 2, sk ch-2 sp, dc in each of next 2 dc, 2 dc in next ch-5 sp; rep from * across ending last repeat at **. Turn. (12 ch-5 sps)

Repeat rows 2-7, 22 times.

Motif (Make 6 for each end of the wrap):

Ch 6. Make a ring with sl st into first ch.

Rnd 1: Ch 3 (count as dc), 11 dc in ring. Sl st into the 3rd ch.

Rnd 2: * Ch 5, skip next dc, sl st in next dc; repeat from * around working final sl st into beg ch-3 from Rnd 1. (6 ch-5 sp)

Rnd 3: Sl st into the next ch-sp, beg tr-cluster in next ch-5 sp, * [ch 3, 3-tr-cluster in same ch-5 sp] twice, ch 3, sc in next ch-5 sp, ch 3, 3-tr-cluster in next ch-5 sp; rep from * twice omitting final cluster, sl st into top of beg tr-cluster.

The next round will attach the motif to the wrap.  Unless otherwise directed, the term “join to wrap” means to work (ch 1, sl st into the next dc on edge of wrap, ch 1).

Rnd 4: Sl st in next ch-3 sp, ch 3, 4 dc in same ch-3 sp, ch 2, sl st into next dc on the edge of the wrap, ch 2, 5 dc in next ch-3 sp, skip next dc on the edge of the wrap, join to wrap, dc in next sc of motif, join to wrap, skip next ch-3 sp, 5 dc in next ch-3 sp, ch 2, skip next dc on the edge of the wrap, sl st into next dc on the edge of the wrap, ch 2, 5 dc in next ch-3 sp, ch 3, dc in next sc, ch 3, skip next ch-3 sp, 5 dc in next ch-3 sp, ch 3, 5 dc in next ch-3 sp, ch 3, dc in next sc, ch 3, sl st into the 3rd ch. Fasten off.

Border

Rnd 1: Start at the corner of the filet edge, [2 sc in the side of each dc. On the edge of the motifs work (2 sc in each ch-3 sp, ch-3-picot, 2 sc in same ch-3-sp) around each motif] repeat around. Fasten off.

Finishing

Weave in all ends.

Block wrap to size.
