Too Cool For Stitch School: The Crochet Ribbing Stitch

Crocheting ribbing is a great technique for every crocheter to learn as it really adds something special to almost any project – Whether it’s the band of a beanie or the cuffs of a sweater, this stitch will always help to create a snug and cozy fit!

Materials

Yarn: Berroco Ultra Alpaca (50% alpaca; 50% wool; 216 yards [198 meters]/100 grams): Sweet Nectar Mix

Hook/Needles: US size G/6 (4.0mm);

Abbreviations

st(s) – stitch(es)

ch – chain stitch

sl st – slip stitch

camel hdc – camel half double crochet

Special Stitches

Camel hdc: Yo, insert hook in next st, but not though the front OR back loop, but instead an extra loop that is behind the next st, yo, drap up a loop (3 loops on hook), yo, pull through 3 loops on hook.

Foundation

Ch 27 (multiples of 1 + 1)

Row 1: Hdc in 2nd ch from hook. Hdc in next 25 sts. Turn work.

Row 2: Sl st in next 26 sts. Turn work. (26 sts)

Row 3: Ch1, camel hdc in same st,

(Yo, insert hook in next st, but not though the front OR back loop, but instead an extra loop that is behind the next st, yo, drap up a loop (3 loops on hook), yo, pull through 3 loops on hook).

Camel hdc in next 25 sts. Turn work.


Repeat

Row 2 – 3 until you reach your desired length.
