How to Treble Crochet

Grab your hook and some yarn and follow along. If you can work the double crochet stitch, you can easily learn how to treble crochet in 4 easy steps.

  1. Yarn over twice and insert the hook into the stitch next to the base of the chain.

  2. Yarn over and pull up a loop. You should have four loops on the hook.

  3. Yarn over and draw through the first two loops on the hook. Yarn over and draw through the next two loops on the hook. You should have two loops on the hook.

  4. Yarn over and draw through the final two loops on the hook. You now know how to treble crochet!

There you have it! That’s the treble crochet stitch and you’ll find this stitch in a wide variety of patterns and you may even see it called the “triple” crochet stitch.     My very first crochet project was a treble crochet scarf using blue yarn. That was 57 years ago. Still one of my favorite stitches.
