No, it should not be hard to switch yarn. Usually you should change in the last stitch in a row if you can. It’s a lot easier. Just when you are about to yarn over and finish the stitch, yarn over with the new color and continue as before. You should give the old color’s tail a tug before you go on any further so it will tighten up and look like the stitches before it.
