Hello again to our monthly Crochet Along friends, both old and new! For those of you who are just joining us, each month we journey through every stage of a project together, from the materials to the final embellishments. We couldn’t wrap up 2016 without something festive, so here is the latest from Janaya Chouinard: Snowflake Coasters.
This design is perfect since the beginning of December always makes me break out my “let it snow” dance. I think one of the most invigorating and fresh feelings in the whole world is the atmosphere when it’s about to start sprinkling us all with soft snowflake kisses. This month is all about curling up inside with hot cocoa, a blanket, and the people you love while waiting for the wonderful winter holidays, and the best way to complete that picture is to add a fun, snowy crochet pattern.
Whether you’re hosting a Christmas party or just want to give your coffee table a touch of Jack Frost, Snowflake Coasters are the perfect project to start on this month. They’re quick and easy, so they won’t add stress to the busyness of the season but will offer you the chance to take a break and enjoy a quality design. They’re also a refreshing take on traditional snowflake crochet patterns—their colorful centers add a little extra pop.
- Red Heart Creme de la Creme – 71 yards (40 gm) is needed to complete a set of 4 coasters (for the contrasting centers, be sure to choose two different colors of yarn)
- 5.0 mm (H-8) crochet hook
- Yarn needle for weaving in ends
Finished size: 6 inches across at the widest point
The next stage will introduce you to the stitches used for this pattern and the first few rows of your coaster. Be sure to check back in and to subscribe to I Like Crochet magazine to continue getting great pattern and design ideas from our crochet community.
