Pattern Notes
- Pattern is worked with two strands of yarn held together throughout.
- Rounds are worked in a spiral; when you get to the end of one round continue with the next one without joining.
Special Stitches
Decreasing with HDC – The way I make a HDC decrease is slightly different than normal; I only yarn over for the first stitch and work the next stitch like a SC decrease – this creates a less bulky decrease stitch.
HDC2TOG: Yarn over, insert hook in next stitch, yarn over and pull through the stitch (3 loops on hook), insert hook in next stitch, yarn over and pull through stitch (4 loops on hook), yarn over and pull through all 4 loops.
HDC3TOG: Yarn over, insert hook in next stitch, yarn over and pull through the stitch (3 loops on hook), insert hook in next stitch, yarn over and pull through stitch (4 loops on hook), insert hook in next stitch, yarn over and pull through stitch (5 loops on hook), yarn over and pull through all 5 loops.
*Work the DC Decreases as you would normally*
Invisible Join: Weave the yarn tail under both loops of the second stitch to the left, then back through the center of the last stitch made. Pull the tail just tight enough so that it looks like the other stitches.
Double Soles – Slip Stitching the Soles Together:
Make 4 soles, two of each color. Place one of each color of sole together with wrong sides facing and Color A on top, making sure to line up the stitches. With two strands of Color A, loosely slip stitch through both layers of stitches from the last round. A contrasting color was used in the example so the stitches were visible; your working yarn should match the color of the sole facing you.
Invisible Join for SLIP STITCH: Weave the yarn tail under both loops of the starting slip stitch, and then back through the center of the last slip stitch made. Pull the tail just tight enough so that it looks like the other stitches. This counts as the last stitch of the round.
Round 1 on the Boot Upper: Locate the center of the heel by laying a hook or needle along the foundation chain of the sole. It should point between two stitches. Starting in the one to the left of the pointer, Attach Color A under both loops by making a slip stitch. Working under both loops of the slip stitches, make the first sc of Round 1 in the next stitch. When you get to the end of the round, make the last sc in the same space as your starting slip stitch.
Working the Cuff: Before you begin the cuff, you need to mark the three center-most stitches as shown.
For Row 1 of the Cuff, join Color A in the front loop only of the stitch to the left of the first marker.
Working the Tongue: To begin the tongue, fold the Cuff back a bit and join color A in the unused back loop of the second last stitch from Row 1 of the Cuff.
