Rosy Newborn Hat

This itty bitty hat is blooming with character and is perfect for a newborn girl. Play with the flower colors to create new blooms that are just as precious as the original.

Size: Newborn, 0-3 Months Old; Head Circumference 13.5 inches, 34cm. Hat Height 5.5 inches, 14cm

Gauge: Gauge is not critical to this project

Materials

Yarn: Needles (100% acrylic; 100 grams): Bulky Yarn (12ply): Snow White (MC, less than 1 ball); DK Yarn (8ply): Dusty Pink (CC, less than 1 ball)
Hooks: US size (7.0 mm) and (4.5 mm) hooks
Notions: Tapestry/wool needle, scissors

Chains at the start of a round count as the first HDC of that round

Pattern

Rnd 1: Using 7.0 mm crochet hook and MC yarn, ch 3. Work 7 hdc into the first ch made. Sl st into top of ch 3. (8)
Rnd 2: Ch 2, hdc into same st. 2 hdc into every st around. Sl st into top of ch 2. (16)
Rnd 3: Ch 2, hdc into same st. *Hdc into next st. 2 hdc in the next st. Repeat from * around. Sl st into the top of ch 2. (24)
Rnd 4: Ch 2, hdc into same st. *Hdc into next 2 sts. 2 hdc in the next st. Repeat from * around. Sl st into the top of ch 2. (32)
Rnds 5-11: Ch 2. Hdc into every st around. Sl st into top of ch 2.
Fasten off, and weave in loose ends.

Flower

Using 4.5 mm crochet hook CC, ch 55.
Row 1: Ch 1, sk 2 chains from hook, Sc into every chain. (55)
Row 2: Ch 4, sk 2, hdc into next st. *ch 3, sk 2 sts, hdc into the third st. Repeat from * across.
Row 3: *Ch 1, (hdc, dc, tc, dc, hdc) into the first loop made in previous row. Sl st down into the loop. Sl st into the next loop. Repeat from the * across, making sure to finish off with a Sl st. {These will be your flower petals.}
Fasten off, making sure to cut the strand of yarn at about 30cm {You’ll need it later on}.

To form your flower, lay your long strip of petals down in a circle, working your way in.
Using tapestry needle, start sewing the flower together using the 30cm strand of yarn you leftover before.
Once you’ve sewed your flower together, sew the flower onto your hat.
Fasten off, and weave in loose ends.
