Lavender Bavarian Throw

Pastel shades of purple, blue and green are the basis for this soft throw. Comprised of easy-to-work shell stitches, this throw will give your living room that soft color accent it needs.

Skill Level: Intermediate

Size: 41” x 49”

Gauge: 4 rows = 3 ¾”; 2 large shells, 2 scs = 5”

Materials

Yarn: Red Heart Classic (100% acrylic; 190 yards [174 meters]/85 grams): #0261 Maize (A, 3 skeins), #0570 Light Lavender (B, 4 skeins); Red Heart Super Saver (100% acrylic; 160 yards [146 meters]/85 grams): #0361 Light Blue (C, 2 skeins), #0668 Honeydew (D, 2 skeins), #0331 White (E, 2 skeins)
Hook: US size G/6 (4.5 mm) hook or size needed for gauge

Special Stitches

Large Shell (lg shell): (4 trs, ch 1, 4 trs) in place indicated.
Small Shell (sm shell): 4 trs in place indicated.
4-back post treble decrease (4-bptr dec): Holding back last loop of each stitch on hook, bptr around each of next 4 stitches, yo, pull through all loops on hook.
8-back post treble decrease (8-bptr dec): *Holding back last loop of each stitch on hook, bptr around each of next 4 stitches*, skip sc between shells and working on next shell, repeat between * once, yo, pull through all loops on hook.
The 8-bptr dec is always worked using the last 4-tr group of 1 shell and the first 4-tr group of the next shell.

Pattern Notes

Do not turn at end of each row.
All work is done on right side.
Each color is done in 2 rows.

Pattern

Row 1 (RS): With A ch 152, sc in 2nd ch from hook, [skip 4 chs, lg shell in next ch, skip 4 chs, sc in next ch] across, ending skip 4 chs, sc in last ch and fasten off. (8 lg shells)
Row 2: With A working on opposite side of starting ch, skip 5 chs, [lg shell in next ch of the opposite lg shell, skip 4 chs, sc opposite sc, skip 4 chs] across, join to beginning sc and fasten off.
Row 3: Join C in beginning stitch, ch 5, 4-bptr dec, [ch 5, sc in next ch 1 space, ch 5, 8-bptr dec] across ending sc in last ch 1 space, 4-bptc dec, ch 5, slip stitch in last sc and fasten off.
Row 4: Join C in 5th ch of beginning ch 5, sm shell in top of 4-bptr dec, [sc in sc, lg shell in top of 8 bptr dec] across ending sc in next sc, sm shell in top of 4-bptr dec, ch 5, slip stitch in 1 st ch of ending ch 5 and fasten off.
Row 5: Join B in 5th ch of beginning ch 5, [ch 5, 8-bptr dec, ch 5, sc in ch 1 space] across ending ch 5, slip stitch in top of ch 5 and fasten off.
Row 6: Join B in first stitch, [lg shell, sc in sc] across ending, slip stitch in bottom ch of ch 5 and fasten off.
Row 7: Join D in beginning stitch, ch 5, continue with Row 3 and fasten off.
Row 8: Join D in 5th ch of beginning ch 5, continue with Row 4 and fasten off.
Row 9: Join E in 5th ch of beginning ch 5, continue with Row 5 and fasten off.
Row 10: Join E in first stitch, continue with Row 6 and fasten off.

Color Scheme

Continue pattern as established repeating Rows 3 and 4, Rows 5 and 6 for a total of 62 rows as follows:
(2 rows A, 2 rows C, 2 rows B, 2 rows D, 2 rows E ) 6 times, 2 rows A

Edging

Rnd 1: Work along top edge join B in right corner joining with a sc, ch 5, 4-bptr dec, [ch 5, sc in ch 1 space, ch 5, 8-bptr dec] across ending 4-bptr dec in corner, ch 5, sc in corner stitch.
Work along side edge [ch 5, sc between next 2 rows, ch 5, sc in space between next 2 rows] across ending 4-bptr dec in bottom corner.
Work along bottom edge as for top edge.  Work along side edge as for opposite side edge ending join to beginning sc.
Rnd 2: Work along top edge sc in beginning sc, ch 1, [dc, (ch 1, dc) 7 times] in 4-bptr dec,
*ch 1, sc in next sc, ch 1, [dc, (ch 1, dc) 5 times] in 8-bptr dec, repeat from * across ending ch 1,
[dc, (ch 1, dc) 7 times] in corner 4-bptr dec.
Work along side edge *ch 1, sc in next sc, ch 1, [dc, (ch 1, dc) 5 times] in next sc, repeat from * across ending ch 1, [dc, (ch 1, dc) 7 times] in bottom corner 4-bptr dec.
Repeat pattern around as established for bottom edge as for top and side edge as for opposite side edge, join to beginning sc and fasten off. yarn ball

      Are there any tutorials available about not turning and working on opposite side of chain? I submitted 2 questions in November and never received a reply.
