Breezy Mesh Cowl

This generously sized lacy cowl is worked entirely in single crochet and chains, making it a great introduction to openwork patterns. The finished piece offers tremendous versatility and can be worn draped over the shoulders, doubled around the neck or over the head as a hood.

Skill Level: Easy

Size: 46″ circumference, 16″ length

Gauge: 3 st reps and 8 rows= 4” [10 cm] in pattern stitch

Yarn: Berroco Fiora (40% cotton, 30% rayon/viscose, 15% alpaca, 10% nylon, 5% wool; 246 yards [225 meters]/100 grams): #3828 Ray (2 balls)
Hook: US size G/6 (4.0 mm) hook
Notions: Tapestry needle

Pattern Notes

This pattern is worked from the bottom up in the round.
Do not turn at the end of rounds. 

Pattern

Ch 210, sl st to first ch to join.
Rnd 1: Ch 6, sc in first ch (counts as sc, ch-5 loop, sc), *ch 5, skip next 5 ch, [sc, ch 5, sc] in next ch, rep from * around ending with sc in first ch-6 loop.
Rnd 2: Ch 5, sc in first ch-5 loop, *ch 5, skip next ch-5 sp, [sc, ch 5, sc] in next ch-5 loop, rep from * around ending with sc in first ch-5 loop.
Rnds 3-32: Rep rnd 2.
Rnd 33: Sc in first ch-5 loop, *ch 5, skip next ch-5 sp, 2 sc in next ch-5 loop, rep from * around ending with sl st in first sc.

Top Border

Ch 1, *sc in first 2 sc, 5 sc in next ch-5 sp,rep from * around ending with sl st in first ch1, fasten off.

Bottom Border

With RS facing, join yarn to bottom edge, ch 1, work in sc evenly around, sl st to first ch1 to join, fasten off.

Finishing

Block to measurements. Weave in ends.
