Proper Plum Lace Mitts

Light and lacy, these fingerless gloves offer a little bit of warmth and a lot of style! Keep your hands warm and your fingers free with these simple mitts.

Skill Level: Intermediate 

Size: 7” tall x 9.75” in circumference at base of thumb; 7.5” in circumference at upper edge

Gauge:  2.5 repeats (3 2-dc shells and 2 6-dc shells) and 7.5 rows = 4” [10 cm] in patt st

Materials

Yarn:

Super Fine Weight Yarn Cascade Yarns Heritage Silk (85% merino, 15% silk; 437 yards [400 meters]/100 grams): Italian Plum (1 skein)

Hook: US size E/4 (3.50 mm) hook or size needed to obtain gauge

Pattern

Cuff

Ch 8, leaving a tail approximately 12”.
Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. Ch 1, turn. (7 sc)
Row 2: Sc BLO in each sc across. Ch 1, turn.
Rep Row 2 until 40 rows have been completed.
Work 40 sc across adjacent long side of ribbed cuff. Join into rnd with sl st in first sc.

Begin Lace Pattern

Rnd 1: Ch 3, (2 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in same sc as join, [sk 3 sc, (dc, ch 2, dc) in next sc, sk 3 sc, (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in next sc] 4 times, sk 3 sc, (dc, ch 2, dc) in next sc, sk 3 sc, join rnd with sl st in top of beg ch-3. (10 shells)
Rnds 2-5:  Sl st in each of next 2 dc and first ch-2 sp, ch 3, (2 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in same ch-2 sp, [ch 1, sk 4 dc, (dc, ch 2, dc) in next ch-2 sp, ch 1, sk 4 dc, (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in next ch-2 sp] 4 times, ch 1, sk 4 dc, (dc, ch 2, dc) in next ch-2 sp, ch 1, sk 4 dc, join rnd with sl st in top of beg ch-3.

Thumb Gusset

Rnd 1: Sl st in each of next 2 dc and first ch-2 sp, ch 3, (2 dc, ch 2, 3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in same ch-2 sp, ch 1, sk 4 dc, (dc, ch 2, dc) in next ch-2 sp, [ch 1, sk 4 dc, (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in next ch-2 sp, ch 1, sk 4 dc, (dc, ch 2, dc) in next ch-2 sp] 4 times, ch 1, sk 4 dc, join rnd with sl st in top of beg ch-3. Upper Hand

Thumb Edging

Join yarn with sl st in first dc of last round of Thumb Gusset.
Rnd 1: Ch 3, 2 dc in same dc, sk 3 dc, 2 sc in ch-2 sp, sk 4 dc, 7 dc in next ch-2 sp, sk 4 dc, 2 sc in next ch-2 sp, sk 2 dc, 3 dc in last dc, join rnd with sl st in top of beg ch-3. (17 sts)
Rnd 2: Ch 1, sc in each st around, join rnd with sl st in first sc. End off. (17 sc)

Finishing

Using original tail, whip stitch beg and end of Cuff together.
Weave in all ends. yarn ball
