Griselda Wrap

Create a sophisticated rectangular shawl using the lace motifs in this project. Subtle color variations from the hand-dyed yarn add richness and depth to an already elegant pattern.

Special Stitches

Dc4cluster: *Yo, insert hook into designated stitch, yo, pull up a loop, yo, pull through 2 loops, rep from *, 3 more times then yo and pull through all 5 loops on hook. (One dc4cluster complete)
Dc5cluster: *Yo, insert hook into designated stitch, yo, pull up a loop, yo, pull through 2 loops, rep from *, 4 more times then yo and pull through all 6 loops on hook. (One dc5cluster complete)

Pattern Notes

This wrap is a series of 16 motifs which are worked separately and joined as you go.
Connect Corner to Previous Motif: To join two motifs at a corner, remove hook from current motif, insert into ch-3 sp of previous motif (or corner where 2 previous motifs connect), place loop back on hook, pull through, and work slip stitch, then continue as directed. (Note: be sure to catch all corners at points where more than 2 motifs come together.)
Joining As You Go: Motifs are joined together on round 10 by replacing the center chain of designated ch-5 spaces or ch-3 spaces with a sl st in the same location on the adjacent motif. Join on one side or or two sides of the square as needed. Be sure to join with right sides facing.

Pattern

Chain 7, then sl st to join.

Rnd 7: Do not chain. Work sc around last ch2-dc from previous row. [Ch 5, sc in next ch-5 sp] twice, ch 5, sk next 3 dc, dc in next 6 dc, 3dc-ch3-3dc in next ch-3 sp, dc in next 6 dc, * sk next 3 dc [Ch 5, sc in next ch-5 sp] three times, ch 5, sk next 3 dc, dc in next 6 dc, 3dc-ch3-3dc in next ch-3 sp, dc in next 6 dc, rep from * twice ending with ch2-dc in initial sc.

[Ch 5, sc in next ch-5 sp] four times, ch 5, sk next 3 dc, dc in next 6 dc, 3dc-ch3-3dc in next ch-3 sp, dc in next 6 dc, * sk next 3 dc [Ch 5, sc in next ch-5 sp] five times, ch 5, sk next 3 dc, dc in next 6 dc, 3dc-ch3-3dc in next ch-3 sp, dc in next 6 dc, rep from * twice ending with ch2-dc in initial sc.
Rnd 10: Do not chain. Work sc around last ch2-dc from previous row. [Ch 5, sc in next ch-5 sp] five times, ch 5, sk next 3 dc, dc in next 6 dc, 3dc-ch3-3dc in next ch-3 sp, dc in next 6 dc, * sk next 3 dc [Ch 5, sc in next ch-5 sp] six times, ch 5, sk next 3 dc, dc in next 6 dc, 3dc-ch3-3dc in next ch-3 sp, dc in next 6 dc, rep from * twice ending with ch2-dc in initial sc. Fasten off.
Work rows 1-9 of next motif same as first, then join to previous motif on a round 10 as follows: work in est patt until corner. In corner work 3 dc in next ch-3 sp, ch 1, connect corner to previous motif (see pattern note above) ch 1, 3 dc in ch-3 sp of current motif, dc in next 6 dc, *ch 2, sl st in first ch-5 sp from previous motif, ch 2, sc in ch-5 sp, rep from * 4 more times, ch 2, sl st in last ch-5 sp of previous motif, ch 2, sk next 3 dc, dc in next 6 dc, 3 dc in next ch-3 sp ch 1, connect corner to previous motif, ch 1, 3 dc in ch-3 sp. Rep these steps along the next side as needed then finish round 10 and fasten off.
Cont in est patt until 16 motifs have been completed and joined, then fasten off.
