Sky Blue Shawlette

This simple shawlette features puff stitches and fans radiating out from the neck edge to create texture and interest. It’s perfect for keeping your shoulders warm on a chilly spring evening.

Skill Level: Intermediate

Size: Depth: 13.5” (35 cm); Neck Edge: 18” (47 cm)

Gauge: 22 sts and 10 rows = 4”: [10 cm] in dc after wet blocking

Materials

Yarn: Colourmart Merino 2/17 (100% merino; 400 yards [370 meters]/60 grams): Pale Blue (1 skein)
Hook: US size D/3 (3.25 mm) hook
Notions: Yarn needle, one ½” [1.3 cm] button

Special Stitches

Puff st: * Yo, insert hook through indicated st, yo, draw yarn through and up to height of previous st; rep from * 3 times, yo, draw yarn through 8 loops, leaving 2 loops on hook, yo, draw through last 2 loops.
Fan: 3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc in same st.
Puff St Group: Puff st, ch 1(2), puff st in same stitch or space.

Row 20 and each even numbered Row to 30: Continue in pattern as shown from Row 14. Keep the puff st groups and fans aligned work the required number of dc’s between the groups. (Stitch count remains the same as the previous row)
Row 21 and each odd numbered row to Row 29: Continue in pattern increasing 1 st in the center of each dc section between the puff st groups and fans and 1 st in the dc sections at each end as shown in Row 19. (20 sts increased each row)
Fasten off and weave in ends.

Finishing

Buttonhole: Join the yarn to Row 1 on the right hand side of the neck edge, ch 7, sl st to the bottom of Row 5, turn and work 7 sc into the 7ch loop, sl st to the top of Row 1.
Stitch button to the left hand side of the neck edge.
Fasten off and weave in ends. yarn ball
