Yarn: Knit Picks Swish Worsted (100% Superwash Merino Wool; 110 yards [101 meters]/50 grams): 24090 Squirrel Heather (MC, 16 (17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22) balls), 25149 Garnet Heather (CC, 2 (2, 2, 3, 3, 3, 4 balls)

Hook: US size H/8 (5.0 mm); US size 7 (4.5 mm) for ribbing

Notions: Tapestry needle, 1” buttons (7-8 total)

Herringbone double crochet (hbdc)

Yo, insert hook in next st (or ch), yo and pull through st (or ch) and first loop on the hook, yo, pull through one lp on hook, yo, pull through 2 lps on hook.

Switch to MC.

Switch to CC and larger hook.

Armhole Shaping

Row 1: Ch 3, hbdc in each st across to last 8 (11, 14, 14, 16, 18, 20) sts, turn.

Front (make 2)

With CC and smaller hook, fdc 28 (32, 36, 40, 44, 48, 52), turn.

Switch to MC.

Row 1: Ch 3, *FPdc in next 2 sts, BPdc in next 2 sts; rep from * across to end of row, turn.

Rep Row 1 until piece meas 5” from foundation ch.

Switch to CC and larger hook.

Next Row: Ch 3, dc in each st across to end of row, turn.

Switch to MC.

Armhole Shaping

Cont working in hbdc until Armhole meas 6 (6.5, 7, 7.5, 8, 8.5, 9)”.

Neck Shaping

Note: At edge opposite of Armhole, begin working neck shaping.

Next Row: Beg at Armhole edge, ch 3, hbdc in st across to last 5 sts, dc2tog, turn, leaving last 3 sts unworked. (4 sts dec’d)

Next Row: Ch 3, hbdc in each st across to end of row, turn.

Cont working in hhbdc until Armhole meas 8 (8.5, 9, 9.5, 10, 10.5, 11)”.

Fasten off.

Sleeve (make 2)

With CC and smaller hook, fdc 32 (32, 36, 36, 40, 40, 44), turn.

Switch to MC.

Row 1: Ch 3, *FPdc in next 2 sts, BPdc in next 2 sts; rep from * across to end of row, turn.

Rep Row 1 until piece meas 5” from foundation ch.

Switch to CC and larger hook.

Next Row: Ch 3, dc in each st across to end of row, turn.

Switch to MC.

Working in hbdc throughout, inc 1 st each end of row on next and every 4 (4, 4, 4, 4, 3, 3) rows 10 (11, 10, 11, 11, 13, 13) more times. (2 sts dec’d each row; 54 (56, 58, 60, 64, 68, 72) sts)

Cont working even in hbdc until piece meas 22.5”.

Fasten off.

Finishing

Join shoulders with a row of sc. Set in sleeves, sew side and sleeve seams.

Collar

With CC, larger hook, and RS facing, beg at neck shaping at Left Front, join yarn, ch 3, dc across to neck shaping at Right Front, ending with a stitch count divisible by 4, turn.

Switch to MC.

Row 1: Ch 3, *FPdc in next 2 sts, BPdc in next 2 sts; rep from * across to end of row, turn.

Rep Row 1 until Collar meas 5”.

Switch to CC.

Next Row: Ch 3, dc in each st across to end of row.

Fasten off.

Button Band

With CC, larger hook, and RS facing, beg at hem of Right Front, dc in each st to top edge of Collar, ending with a stitch count divisible by 4, turn.

Switch to MC.

Row 1: Ch 3, *FPdc in next 2 sts, BPdc in next 2 sts; rep from * across to end of row, turn.

Rep Row 1 until Button Band meas 2”.

Switch to CC.

Next Row: Ch 3, dc in each st across to end of row.

Fasten off.

Mark location for 7-8 buttons, evenly spaced.

Buttonhole Band

With CC, larger hook, and RS facing, beg at hem of Right Front, dc in each st to top edge of Collar, ending with a st count divisible by 4, turn.

Switch to MC.

Row 1: Ch 3, *FPdc in next 2 sts, BPdc in next 2 sts; rep from * across to end of row, turn.

Rep Row 1 until Band meas 1.5”.

Work in est rib patt, working (ch 2, sk next 2 sts) opposite each button maker.

Cont in rib patt, working 2 dc in each ch-2 sp.

Work one more row even in est rib patt.

Switch to CC.

Next Row: Ch 3, dc in each st across to end of row.

Fasten off.

Weave in all ends.

Sew buttons opposite buttonholes.
