Pastel Leopard Sweater

This ombré tapestry crochet chunky sweater is the perfect project to wear when the temperature drops, with the chunky yarn keeping you extra toasty. The hardest part? Choosing the colors!

Yarn: Paintbox Yarns Wool Mix Aran (50% wool, 50% acrylic; 197 yards [180 meters]/100 grams): #824 Pistachio Green (MC, 6 (7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14) balls), #802 Champagne White (CC1, 2 (2, 2, 2, 2, 3, 3, 3, 3) balls), #806 Granite Grey (CC2, 3 (3, 3, 3, 4, 4, 5, 5, 5) balls)

Hook: US size K/10.5 (6.5 mm)

Pattern Notes

This pattern is worked in flat panels, then seamed using slip stitch. The hem, cuff and neckline are worked seamlessly in the round at the end, for a professional finish. All colors are carried along the top edge of the row and worked over to encase the strands on every row.

With MC, ch 76 (80, 89, 99, 108, 117, 127, 136, 145).
Set-up Row (WS): Sc in 2nd ch from hook and each remaining ch across, turn. (75 (79, 88, 98, 107, 116, 126, 135, 144) sts)

Begin working chart in sc tapestry crochet.

Join CC1 and CC2.

Row 1 (RS): Work Row 1 of Body chart for your size by beginning with first 4 sts, then working the 28-st pattern rep 2 (2, 3, 3, 3, 4, 4, 4, 5) times, and ending with 15 (19, 0, 10, 19, 0, 10, 19, 0) more sts of the next pattern rep, turn.

Row 2 (WS): Work Row 2 of Body chart by beginning with first 15 (19, 0, 10, 19, 0, 10, 19, 0) sts of partial pattern rep, then working the 28-st pattern rep 2 (2, 3, 3, 3, 4, 4, 4, 5) times, and ending with last 4 sts of chart, turn.

Rows 3-82 (84, 85, 87, 91, 93, 95, 98, 101): Continue with Row 3 of Body chart and work chart to end for your size.

Fasten off.

Front

Work as for Back through Rows 62 (62, 62, 62, 62, 70, 70, 70, 70) of Body chart for your size.

Then work Row 63 (63, 63, 63, 63, 71, 71, 71, 71) of Front Neck chart for your size and work chart to end.

Fasten off.

Sleeve (make 2)

With MC, ch 53 (55, 57, 61, 63, 67, 71, 73, 75).

Set-up Row (WS): Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each remaining ch across, turn. (52 (54, 56, 60, 62, 66, 70, 72, 74) sts)

Begin working chart in sc tapestry crochet.

Join CC1 and CC2.

Row 1 (RS): Work Row 1 of Sleeve chart for your size by working 28-st pattern rep 1 (1, 2, 2, 2, 2, 2, 2, 2) times(s), and ending with 24 (26, 0, 4, 6, 10, 14, 16, 18) more sts of the next pattern rep, turn.

Row 2 (WS): Work Row 2 of Sleeve chart by beginning with first 24 (26, 0, 4, 6, 10, 14, 16, 18) sts of partial pattern rep, and ending with working 28-st pattern rep 1 (1, 2, 2, 2, 2, 2, 2, 2) times(s), turn.

Rows 3-52 (54, 56, 60, 62, 66, 70, 72, 74): Continue with Row 3 of Sleeve chart and work chart to end for your size.

Fasten off.

Finishing

Hold front panel and back panel with WS together. With MC, slip stitch seam along shoulders.

Match center of top of sleeve with shoulder seam. With MC, slip stitch seam sleeve to body.

With MC, slip stitch seam side seam from hem to underarm to cuff.

Neck Edging:

Rnd 1: With RS facing, join MC at shoulder seam and evenly sc 33 (34, 36, 39, 43, 45, 47, 50, 50) along front neckline and sc 17 (24, 24, 27, 35, 39, 41, 44, 46) across back neckline. Do not join. (50 (58, 60, 66, 78, 84, 88, 94, 96) sts)

Rnd 2 (RS): [BPdc, FPdc] around.

Rep last rnd 2 (2, 2, 2, 2, 2, 3, 3, 3) more times.

Next Rnd: Join CC1, [BPsc, FPsc] around. Fasten off.

Cuff

Rnd 1: With RS facing, join MC at sleeve seam and sc2tog 26 (26, 28, 30, 30, 32, 34, 36, 36) times. Do not join. (26 (28, 28, 30, 30, 34, 36, 36, 38) sts remain)

Rnd 2 (RS): [BPdc, FPd] around.

Rep last rnd 4 (4, 4, 4, 5, 5, 6, 6, 7) more times.

Next Rnd: Join CC1, [BPsc, FPsc] around. Fasten off.

Rep for second sleeve.

Hem

Rnd 1: With RS facing, join MC at side seam and sc evenly around bottom edge ending with an even number of sts. Do not join.

Rnd 2 (RS): [BPdc, FPdc] around.

Rep last rnd 4 (4, 4, 5, 5, 7, 7, 7, 7) more times.

Next Rnd: Join CC1, [BPsc, FPsc]. Fasten off.

Weave in all ends, block gently.
