Pattern Notes

  1. The shrug is worked from the center back to the wrist on one side. The yarn is then reattached at the center back and worked to the wrist on the other side.
  2. Ch 1, does not count as a stitch.
  3. If you prefer a looser fit, consider making one size larger, or add extra chs in multiples of 5 at the beginning, depending on how loose you want it. Follow the length instructions for your actual size.
  4. The shrug is worked in rows and then seamed. To avoid seaming, after working initial 11 (11.5, 12, 12.5, 13)”, work in rounds by joining with sl st to first st and turning. Follow the same for another side.
  5. For a super light shrug, use sport weight yarn. Do not forget to match the gauge.

Panel 2:

Right side facing, join yarn in the marked ch.

For row 1, clusters will be worked in the base ch of clusters from the first row of previous panel.

Row 1 (RS): Ch 1, dc in marked base ch, cluster in the each of base ch of cluster from the first row of previous panel, dc in base ch of last dc. (8 (9, 12, 14, 16) clusters and 2 dc)

Seaming

Lay the piece flat and measure 11 (11.5, 12, 12.5, 13)” from the center back (first row) along the top edge on both the right and left sides, then place stitch markers. Similarly, place two more stitch markers along the lower edge.

With right sides facing together, fold the piece in half lengthwise. Thread the yarn tail onto a tapestry needle and seam from the wrist to the stitch markers. Rep the process on the other side. The center opening of the shrug should measure 22 (23, 24, 25, 26)”. Try on the shrug and adjust the opening if needed.

Picot edging around the opening

Right side facing, join yarn at any underarm (where you placed the stitch markers for sewing). Switch to smaller hook.

Rnd 1: Ch 1, add sc evenly along the opening. Do NOT join.

Rnd 2: *Sc in next 5 sts, picot, rep from * around. Join with sl st to first st.

Fasten off.
