Sundreamer Dress Set

The Sundreamer Dress Set is the ultimate summer ensemble—bohemian, bright, and ready for sunshine. 0-2” negative ease recommended.

Gauge: 18 sts and 8 rows = 4” [10 cm] in dc pattern after wet blocking.

Notions: Tapestry needle. One leather shoulder bag handbag strap [23-26”] with key chain hooks. One ½” button. Two D-rings (optional).

Pattern Notes

The pattern has been designed for a total of 40 grannies joined by a sl st (see schematic). Bottom and top edges are finished by a picot st, that is also used (worked double) for the straps.

Purse is made out of 4 grannies joined by a sl st (see schematic) and flap edge finish by a picot st. You can optionally add 2 D-rings to tie the strap or just attach the strap to one of the 2 ch-sp in the top corners.

Starting ch 3 counts as a stitch. Starting ch 1 does not count as st.

Granny Squares (make 20 with CC1, 10 with CC2, and 10 with CC3: 40 in total).

Size XL

Rnd 5:  Ch 3, *[dc in ch-1 sp, dc] to corner, [dc, ch 4, dc] in ch-3 corner sp; rep from * 3 times, [dc in ch-1 sp, dc] to end of round, sl st on top of first st. (60 dc, 4 ch-4 sps).

Rnds 6-7: Rep Rnd 5 two more times. (76 dc, 4 ch-4 sps).

Rnd 8: Ch 3, *[sc in ch-1 sp, sc] to corner, [sc, ch 4, sc] in ch-3 corner sp; rep from * 3 more times, [sc in ch-1 sp, sc] to end of round, sl st on top of first st. (84 sc, 4 ch-4 sps))

Finishing

Block grannies.

With RS facing, arrange all motifs as indicated in schematic 1. Please note that there are 6 squares that are folded in half (half of the square goes to the front and half to the back).

With CC4, wrong sides facing and working through inner loops only, join the squares with a sl st. I suggest joining by rows, as shown in figure 1.

Picot Edging

Rnd 1 (RS): Join CC4 in any outer corner, ** [2 dc, ch 3, join with sl st to 1st chain, dc] in corner, sl st in next st, *[2 dc, ch 3, join with sl st to 1st chain, dc] in next st, sl st in next st; rep from * to next inner corner, sl st in first st of next square, rep from * to next outer corner; rep from ** around, join with sl st to first st.

See figure 1 for clarification of outer and inner corners.

Cut yarn and weave in all ends.

Straps

With CC4, Ch 45 (45, 51, 57, 57),

Rnd 1: 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook, 1 sc in next ch to last ch, 3 sc in last ch, then work up 2nd side of ch, 1 sc in next ch to last ch, 2 sc in last ch.

Rnd 2: Ch 1, *[2 dc, ch 3, join with sl st to 1st chain, dc] in next st, sl st in next st; rep from * to end of round, join with sl st to first st.

Sew straps to the back of upper outer corners, adjusting length as desired.

Purse

Granny Squares (make 2 with CC1, 1 with CC2, and 1 with CC3: 4 in total)

Finishing

Block Grannies.

With RS facing, arrange all motifs as indicated in schematic 2.

With CC4, wrong sides facing and working through inner loops only, join the squares with a sl st. As in the case of the dress, I suggest joining by rows, as shown in figure 2.

Picot edging

Rnd 1 (RS): Join CC4 in flap corner, ** [2 dc, ch 3, join with sl st to 1st chain, dc] in corner, sl st in next st, *[2 dc, ch 3, join with sl st to 1st chain, dc] in next st, sl st in next st; rep from * to next corner; rep from ** one more time, [2 dc, ch 3, join with sl st to 1st chain, dc] in corner.

Cut yarn and weave in all ends.

Sew button. The ch-4 sp from Rnd 6 of the flap grannie will serve as hole.

You can optionally add 2 D-rings to tie the strap or just attach the strap to one of the 4 ch-sp in the top corners.
