Pavona Wrap

This charming lace wrap is a must-have addition to your vacation suitcase. Have a great time crocheting this fun lace pattern that uses semi-solid and open mesh fan stitch repeats to create a wrap that you will reach for all the time. Worked out from a central foundation in the semi-solid fan stitch, each end of this generous wrap has 5 mesh stripes to give a bold graphic finish.

Size: Approximately 20 by 70” after blocking

Gauge: 2 repeats and 8 rows in Fan pattern = 4” [10 cm] after steam blocking

Materials

Light weight yarnYarn: Universal Yarn “Bamboo Pop” (50% cotton, 50% bamboo; 292 yards [266 meters]/100 grams):

Color # 135 Apricot Slush – 3 balls

Hook/Needles: US size 7 (4.5 mm)

Notions: Stitch markers, tapestry needle for weaving in ends.

Special Stitches

Beginning Cluster (Beg CL): Ch 3, (YO, insert hook in indicated st or sp, YO, pull up a lp, YO, pull through 2 lps) 2 times, YO, pull through rem 3 lps on hook.

V-stitch (V-st): (Dc, ch 1, dc) in indicated st or sp.

4 Double Crochet Fan (Fan): ([Dc, ch 1] 3 times, dc) in indicated st or sp.

3 Double Crochet Cluster (3dc CL): (YO, insert hook in indicated st or sp, YO, pull up a lp, YO, pull through 2 lps) 3 times, YO, pull through rem 4 lps on hook.

Large V-stitch (Lrg V-st): (Dc, ch 2, dc) in indicated st or sp.

Large V-stitch Fan (V-Fan): (Ch 2, Lrg V-st, ch 2) in indicated st or sp.

6 double crochet shell (Shell): 6 dc in indicated st or sp.

Pattern Notes This pattern is worked in rows from a central foundation. The foundation is made in stacked rows, then work is turned so that first row is worked into sides of foundation rows. When second side of wrap is worked, stitches are worked into free side of stacked rows foundation.

Chains count individually when skipping stitches.

Weave in tails after blocking to avoid puckering the fabric.

Foundation

Row 1: Ch 2, sc in 2nd ch from hook.

Row 2 (RS): Turn, Beg CL in sc st.

Row 3: Ch 1, turn, sc in top of Beg CL.

Rows 4 – 41: (Alternate rep rows 2 and 3) 19 times.

Side One Wrap

Turn foundation with WS facing and begin to work into sides of foundation rows.

Row 1: (Beg CL, V-st) in side of first sc row, *sk next CL, (sc, ch 2, sc) in side of next sc row, sk next CL, Fan {see Special Stitches} in side of next sc row; rep from * across until work in 3rd sc row from end, sk next CL, (sc, ch 2, sc) in side of next sc row, sk next CL, (V-st, 3dc CL) in side of last sc row. (9 Fans, 20 sc, 10 ch-2 sp, 2 V-sts, 1 Beg CL, 1 3dc CL)

Row 2 (RS) {Fans 1}: Ch 1, turn, 2 sc in CL, *sk 4 sts, Fan in next ch-2 sp, sk 4 sts, (sc, ch 2, sc) in next ch-sp; rep from * across until work in last Fan of prev row, sk 4 sts, Fan in next ch-2 sp, sk 4 sts, 2 sc in last CL. (10 Fans, 22 sc, 9 ch-2 sp)

Rows 47 – 64: (Rep rows 41 – 46) 3 times.

Rows 65 – 69: Rep rows 41-45.

Edging

Row 70 {Shells}: Ch 1, turn, (sc, ch 2, sc) in CL, *skip 4 sts, Shell {see Special Stitches} in next ch-2 sp, skip 4 sts, (sc, ch 2, sc) in next ch-sp; rep from * across until work in last Fan of prev row, sk 4 sts, Shell in next ch-2 sp, sk 4 sts, (sc, ch 2, sc) in last CL. (10 Shell, 22 sc, 11 ch-2 sp)

Side Two Wrap

With WS facing attach yarn to side of first sc on foundation row.

Rows 1 – 70: Rep Rows 1 – 70 from Side One.

Finishing

Pin out to open lace pattern and steam or wet block. Once dry weave in all tails.

    So this is a mirror pattern out from the foundation center. I had to read the pattern a couple of times to get it. Should be interesting to try.
