Textured Ruffles Baby Blanket

Who knew crocheting a baby blanket with some three-dimensional flair would be so easy? The Textured Ruffles Baby Blanket is worked in the back loop only to give you anchoring spaces to work up and out with some fun ruffles.

Skill Level: Intermediate

Size: 30” x 50”

Gauge: Gauge not critical

Materials

Yarn: Red Heart Soft (100% acrylic; 256 yards [234 meters]/141 grams): Off White (A, 2 skeins), Teal (B, 2 skeins), Sea Foam (C, 2 skeins), Grape (D, 1 skein)
Hook: US size H/8 (5.0 mm) hook

Pattern Notes

Beginning ch 3 of rows will count as the first dc of each row for the blanket.
By using the back loop, the front loop will remain unworked and create a ridge that will be used to add the ruffles.
Ruffles are added every 2 rows.

Pattern

Using Color A, chain 102.
Row 1: Turn, dc in third chain from hook and in each chain across. (100 sts)
Rows 2-length desired (approx. 75 rows): Turn, ch 3, working in back loop only, dc in each stitch (100 sts). Fasten off. Weave in ends.
Alternate the colors for ruffles in this order: * B, D, C, D, repeat from * to complete. Use ‘Ruffle 1’ for Colors B and C and ‘Ruffle 2’ for Color D.
Ruffle 1: Join Color B OR C at the first exposed loop of the first ridge row, ch 5 (counts as a treble and a ch 1), treble in same stitch, ch 1, (tr, ch 1, tr, ch 1) in each stitch, in last stitch (tr, ch 1, tr, sc). Fasten off. Weave in ends.
Ruffle 2: Join Color D at the first exposed loop of the ridge row, ch 3, sl st to same stitch, * sl st to next stitch, ch 3, sl st to same stitch, repeat from * to complete the row. Fasten off. Weave in ends.

This would be fun using up some of the odd skeins of different colors. It could scale up or down, as well, dolly blanket, lap blanket, bed runner. This might be my next TV watching project.

I already used 2skiens of white yarn and only half way thru the blanket. I think its going to be 4 skiens of the white. The picture you show is deceiving of how big the blanket is. You should show the right size of it

      Hi Mary,

This pattern is a baby blanket pattern, and we do have the dimensions of the finished piece noted in the pattern itself.
      I hope that helps!

Check your gauge and yarn weight. That could be off. My other thought is are you using American double crochet or British double crochet?
