Woodland Baby Booties

Every baby needs a tailored boot! This crochet pattern uses a stitch that looks like it’s knit! It’s simple and fun to crochet so mix and match your colors for boy or girl and get busy making your own boots.

Skill Level: Intermediate

Size: Small (Medium, Large)
2” wide x 3” long (2” wide x 3½” long, 2” wide x 4” long)

Gauge: 4 sts and 4 rows = 1” square in sc

Materials

Yarn:

Medium Weight Yarn Ewe Ewe Wooly Worsted (100% Acrylic; 95 yards [80 meters]/50 grams): Vanilla (C1), 1 skein; Pistachio (C2), 1 skein; Wheat (C3), 1 skein.

Hook: US size F (3.75 mm)

Notions: Stitch holders; tapestry needle

Pattern Notes

To change colors, finish all but last pull through on current stitch, drop current color, pick up next and finish stitch.

Weave in ends as shoe progresses.

Pattern sizes are as follows: Small (Medium, Large). It may be helpful to circle or highlight the desired working size throughout before beginning.

Special Stitches

Crochet Knit Stitch (CKS): Work into the CENTER of the single crochet stitch post (not top loops), push through, yarn over, pull back through, yarn over pull through all loops on hook. It is a single crochet IN the POST.

Crochet Knit Stitch Decrease (CKS dec): Work into the CENTER of the single crochet stitch post (not top loops), push through, yarn over, pull back through, push through NEXT center of stitch, yarn over, pull back through, yarn over pull through all loops on hook.

Pattern

With C3, ch 9 (11, 13).

Rnd 1: Sc in the first ch from the hook, sc in next 6 (8, 10) sts, 3 sc in the last ch, working on the opposite side of chain, sc in next 6 (8, 10) sts, 3 sc in the last ch, sl st to the first st to join – 18 (22, 26) sts.

Rnd 2: Ch 1, sc in the same beg ch-1 st, sc in next 4 (6, 7) sts, hdc in next 2 (2, 3) sts, 2 sc in the next 3 sts, hdc in next 2 (2, 3) sts, sc in next 4 (6, 7) sts, 2 sc in the next 3 sts, sl st to the first st to join – 24 (28, 32) sts.

Rnd 3: Ch 2, hdc in the same beg ch-2 st, hdc in next 6 (8, 10) sts, (hdc in next st, 2 hdc in next st) 3 times, hdc in next 6 (8, 10) sts, (sc in next st, 2 sc in next st) 3 times, sl st to the first st to join – 30 (34, 38) sts.

Fasten off C3, join C1.

Rnd 4: Ch 1, working in the back loop only throughout rnd, sc in the same ch-1 st, sc in each st, sl st to the first st to join – 30 (34, 38) sts.

Rnd 5: Ch 1, CKS (see Special Stitch) in each st around, do not join.

Rnd 6: Working in the rnd (mark the first st with a stitch marker), CKS in next 6 (8, 10) sts, (CKS, CKS dec) 3 times, CKS to the end of rnd – 27 (31, 35) sts.

Rnd 7: CKS in next 6 (8, 10) sts, (CKS dec) 3 times, CKS to end of rnd – 24 (28, 32) sts.

Rnd 8: CKS in next 4 (6, 8) sts, (CKS dec) 3 times, CKS to end of rnd – 21 (25, 29) sts.

Rnd 9: CKS in next 4 (6, 8) sts, (CKS 3 tog), CKS to end of rnd – 19 (23, 27) sts.

Rnds 10-18: CKS in each st around, sl st to the first st to join for Rnd 18.

Small size only

Rnd 19: Ch 1, turn, working in blo, *2 sc in next st, sc in next 4 sts; rep from * to last 4 sts, *2 sc in next st, sc in next 3 sts – 23 sts.

Medium size only

Rnd 19: Ch 1, turn, working in blo, *2 sc in next st, sc in next 4 sts; rep from * to end of rnd – 27 sts.

Large size only

Rnd 19: Ch 1, turn, working in blo, *2 sc in next st, sc in next 4 sts; rep from * 4 more times, sc in next 2 sts to finish – 32 sts.

All sizes

Join C2, drop C1.

Rnd 20: Working in the rnd, CKS in each st around, pick up C1, fasten off C2.

Rnd 21: CKS in each st around, join C3, drop C1.
Rnd 22: CKS in each st around, pick up C1, fasten off C3.
Rnd 23: CKS in each st around, join C2, drop C1.
Rnd 24: CKS in each st around, pick up C1, fasten off C2.
Rnd 25: CKS in each st around, join C3, fasten off C1.
Rnd 26: CKS in each st around, sl st to the first st to join. Fasten off.

Finishing

Weave in all end.yarn ball
