Modern Lace Baby Blanket

Skip traditional and go for a blanket with more texture and interesting stitches. This baby blanket is great for little ones and will be cherished for many years.

Size: 36” square before edging and 38” square with edging

 Gauge: 6 sts = 2” and 6 row repeat = 2 ¼”

Materials

Yarn:

Medium Weight Yarn Red Heart Crème de la Crème (100% combed cotton; 125 yards [114.3 meters]/70.9 grams): #0118 Linen (MC, 6 skeins), #0501 Aqua Jade (A, 2 skeins), #0910 Wood Violet (B, 2 skeins), #0205 Golden Yellow (C, 2 skeins), #0720 Brite Pink (D, 2 skeins)

Hook/Needles: US size H/8 (5.0 mm) or size to obtain gauge

Notions: Tapestry needle, scissors

Pattern Notes

MC is carried on side of work and drawn up from where it is left off on the opposite side of row where last color is worked. All other colors are fastened off at the end of the row worked.

Pattern

Row 1: With MC, ch 109. Dc in 4th ch from hook, *dc in next 2 ch, ch 1, skip next ch; rep from * across row, ending with ch 1, skip next ch, dc in last ch. (107 sts)

Row 2: Ch 3, turn (counts as first dc), dc in next 2 dc, *ch 1, skip ch-1 sp, dc in next 2 dc; rep from * across row, ending with dc in last dc. (107 ch and dc)

Row 3: Same as Row 2, changing to A in last dc

Row 4: With A, ch 1, turn, sc in first 3 dc, *ch 1, skip ch-1 sp, sc in next 2 dc; rep from * across row, ending with sc in last dc, change to B.

Row 5: With B, ch 1, turn, sc in first 3 sc, *ch 1, skip ch-1 sp, sc in next 2 sc; rep from * across row, ending with sc in last sc, change to C. Fasten off B

Row 6: With C, ch 1, turn, sc in first 3 sc, *ch 1, skip ch-1 sp, sc in next 2 sc; rep from * across row, ending with sc in last sc. Fasten off C. Draw up MC from other side of work into top of first sc

Row 7: With MC, ch 3, turn (counts as first dc), *dc in next 2 sc, ch 1, skip ch-1 sp; rep from * across row, ending with ch 1, skip ch-1 sp, dc in last sc. (107 dc and ch)

Row 8: Ch 3, turn (counts as first dc), dc in next 2 dc, *ch 1, skip ch-1 sp, dc in next 2 dc; rep from * across row, ending with dc in last dc. (107 ch and dc)

Row 9: Same as Row 8, changing to B in last dc

Rows 10-78: Repeat Rows 4-9, using the following color sequence for Rows 4-6:

[ABC (already done once); BCD; BAC; DCA] 3 times, ending with ABC.

You will be ending with A on Row 9. Change to A at end of this row and fasten off MC

Edging

Rnd 1: With A, work 3 sc in first dc, sc in each dc across row, work 3 sc in last dc, sc evenly along side edge of blanket, work 3 sc in first ch at corner of beginning ch edge, sc across beg ch edge, work 3 sc in last ch, sc evenly along rem side edge, ending with sl st to join in first sc. Fasten off A.

Rnd 2: Attach B in center sc at corner with ch 1, work 3 sc in this center corner sc, *sc in each sc across row to next corner sc, 3 sc in corner; rep from * around, ending with 3 sc in corner, sl st to join in first sc. Fasten off B.

Rnd 3: Same as Rnd 2, using C.

Rnd 4: Same as Rnd 2, using D.

Rnd 5 (Hdc Picot Edging): Attach MC in any D sc of edging, *ch 2, hdc in same sc, skip next sc, sl st in next sc; rep from * around, ending with sl st into attaching sp. Fasten off.

Finishing

Weave in loose ends. Gently steam press to block.yarn ball
