Chunky yarn is an excellent choice for making cowls. With a combination of front post and back post crochet stitches, this cowl ends up being extra cozy and warm.

Abbreviations

sc: single crochet
FPsc: front post single crochet
FPEdc: front post extended double crochet

BPEdc: back post extended double crochet

Special Stitches

Extended double crochet (Edc)

Yo, insert hook in indicated st, yo, pull up a lp (3 lps on hook), yo, pull through the first lp on hook (3 lps on hook), (yo, pull through 2 lps) twice (1 lp on hook).

Pattern

Ch 43.

Row 1: Edc in 4th ch from hook, Edc in each ch across row, turn. (41 sts)

Row 2: Ch 3 (counts as first Edc), *BPEdc in next Edc, Edc in next Edc; rep from * to end of row, turn.

Row 3: Ch 3 (counts as first Edc), *FPEdc in next Edc, Edc in next Edc; rep from * to end of row, turn.

Rows 4-5: Rep Rows 2-3.

Row 6: Rep Row 2.

Row 7: Ch 1, *sc in next Edc, FPsc in next sc; rep from * to end of the row.

Row 8: Ch 1, place the short ends of the Scarf against each other, 2 sc around every dc of both ends of the scarf. (12 sts)

Fasten off.
