Maribel Scarf

This one-skein project is perfect for that beautiful, hand-dyed sock yarn in your stash. Worked back and forth on the bias, this scarf has a lacy pattern that is wearable all year round.

Skill Level: Easy

Size: 8″ wide x 70″ long

Gauge: 16 dc and 9 rows = 4″ [10cm]

Materials

Super fine weight yarnYarn: Manos del Uruguay Alegria (75% Superwash Merino, 25% Polyamide; 445 yards [407 meters]/100 grams): 2552 Foil (1 skein)

Hook: US size 7 (4.5mm)

Notions: Tapestry needle, 4 removable markers

Special Stitches

dc3tog: (Yo, insert hook into next st, yo, pull up a lp, yo, pull through 2 lps) 3 times (4 lps on hook), yo, pull through all lps on hook.

Shell: 5 dc in st indicated.

Pattern Notes

Turn at the end of every row unless indicated otherwise.

When working edging, work approximately 2 sc for every row along long edge of scarf.

Use removable markers to mark corners of edging.

Ch 41.

Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook, [ch 3, sk 1 ch, dc3tog, ch 3, sk 1 ch, sc in next ch, ch 5, sk 3 ch, sc in next ch] 3 times, ch 3, sk 1 ch, dc3tog, ch 3, sk 1 ch, sc in next ch, ch 3, sk 2 ch, dc in last ch. (4 dc3tog)

Row 2: Ch 3, shell in first dc, [ch 5, sc in top of dc3tog, ch 5, shell in next ch-5 sp] 3 times, ch 2, dc in top of dc3tog. (4 shells)

Row 3: Ch 3, sk 2 dc, dc3tog, ch 3, sc in next ch-5 sp, ch 5, sc in next 5 ch-sp, [ch 3, sk 1  dc, dc3tog, ch 3, sc in next ch-5 sp, ch 5, sc in next ch-5 sp] 3 times, ch 3, sk 1  dc, dc3tog, ch 3, dc in tch. (4 dc3tog)

Rep Rows 2-3, 48 times, then Row 2 once more.

Edging

Row 1: Ch 1, sc in first dc, ch 3, [sk 2 dc, sc in next dc, ch 3, sc in next ch-5 sp, ch 2, sc in next ch-5 sp, ch 3] 3 times, sk 2 dc, sc in next dc, ch 2, sc in tch, do not turn.

Rnd 1: Sc in same tch and place marker in this st, 197 sc to beg-ch, sc in same st and place marker in this st, 41 sc along beg-ch, sc in same st and place marker in this st, 197 sc to first sc of Row 1 edging, sc in same st and place marker in this st, 2 sc in first sc, 3 sc in next ch-3 sp, [sc in next sc, 3 sc in next ch-3 sp, sc in next sc, 2 sc in next ch-2 sp, sc in next sc, 3 sc in next 3 ch-sp] 3 times, sc in next sc, 2 sc in next ch-2 sp, sc in next sc, sl st to marked st, do not turn.

Rnd 2: Ch 1, [3 sc in marked st, move marker to 2nd of these 3 sc, sc in each sc to marker] 3 times, 3 sc in marked st, move marker to 2nd of these 3 sc, sc in each sc to beg of rnd, sl st to first sc, do not turn.

Rnd 3: Ch 1, sc in first sc, ch 4, sk marked sc, sc in next sc, [(ch 4, sk 2 sc, sc in next sc) to next marker, ch 4, sk marked sc, sc in next sc] 3 times, (ch 4, sk 2 sc, sc in next sc) to end of rnd, sl st to first sc, do not turn.

Rnd 4: Ch 1, sc in first ch-4 sp, [ch 3, 3 dc in same ch-4 sp, sc in next ch-4 sp] to end of rnd, sl st to first sc.

Fasten off and break yarn.

Finishing

Remove markers.

Weave in ends.

Block scarf.
