As Clear As Crochet – Swatching: Yes or No?

I have a “swatch” or sampler library that I use to see how patterns might work up for me. I can write notes on the printed pattern, and figure pattern repeats so that I can make articles later without having to go through it again. These swatches show me how MY project might look. I crochet blankets for Project Linus and have used a great number of my saved patterns.
This is a pet peeve of mine. A swatch size to match to gives me an idea what size the designer was working with, so I know if I want mine larger or smaller. I tend to crochet tighter than most, so using the same size hook/needles and yarn as the designer, in comparison mine can turn out quite small as compared to the original. I do not like so swatch, but swatching is a necessity for me. Swatching can save me many headaches in the long run. Please give a swatch. Thank you.
Anytime a pattern asked for a swatch, I do a swatch. I generally crochet clothing and gauge counts.
I did a swatch one time–didn’t match the gauge. I usually do afghans or scarves so I don’t swatch. I did do a “turtle-style” vest once–didn’t swatch that either.
