Madelyn Shawlette

Madelyn is a half circle shawl that can be dressed up or down for warmer days. This lightweight design is done in a granny style pattern intermittent with rows of Solomon Knot.  Finished with an edging of Solomon Knots and picots, Madelyn is an intermediate design you’ll be proud to crochet.

Skill Level: Intermediate

Size: 51” wide x 21” long

Gauge: 4 3-dc group and 8 rows = 4” [10 cm]

Materials

Super fine weight yarnYarn: Cascade Yarns Heritage Silk Paints (85% Wool, 15% Mulberry Silk; 437 yards [400 meters]/100 grams): 9817 Water Lilies (1 ball)

Hook: US Size H/8 (5.0 mm)

Notions: Tapestry needle

Special Stitches

Solomon Knot (SK): Pull up lp on hook to 0.5”, yo, pull through long lp, sc in back strand of long lp.

Elongated Solomon’s Knot (ESK): Pull up lp on hook to 0.75”, yo, pull through long lp, sc in back strand of long lp.

Picot: Ch 3, sl st in top of sc.

Pattern

Ch 5, tr in 5th ch from hook.
Row 1: Ch 3, 12 dc in ch-4 sp. (13 dc)

Rows 2: Ch 1, sc in first st, *ch 3, sk 1 st, sc in next st; rep from * 5 more times, ending with last sc in last st, turn. (7 sc, 6 ch-3 sp)
