1 Insert the hook under both front and back loops (or, under the complete “V”) of the 2nd chain from the hook. Wrap the yarn over the hook from back to front (yarn over) and draw it through the V.
2 You now have two loops on your hook. Yarn over and pull the yarn through both loops. You’ve just made one single crochet stitch.
3 Repeat steps 1-2 until you reach the end of the row.
4 At the end of the row, make one single chain stitch (a turning chain), then flip the piece from left to right (horizontally).
5 To start the next row, insert the hook under the V of the first stitch (ignore the chain you just made) and repeat the steps.

I wish there was a video explaining this. I am slightly confused by just the wording and the pictures. I feel like I am missing something here. A video would be very helpful here.

I used to crochet, but I haven’t in quite a while, I would like to start again, but forgot how to start the single crochet stitch
I have been crocheting for years but often encourage others to do so. But it would be nice to see how to do things if you are lefthanded! Especially adjusting patterns! I have learned that you just have to do what “feels right” at times and hope for the best!
In the uk this is a single crochet stitch. I can’t understand why they are different in America, it makes reading patterns very confusing.

In the UK we don’t have single crochet. We have double crochet followed by treble crochet which America have as double crochet.
How do you start…casting on?
This is very useful information to make a correct single crochet stitch. I will be able to use in my next project.
