Downton Cloche

This crocheted cloche is reminiscent of 1920’s flapper style. Worked in double crochet and embellished with crocheted flowers, this easy project is perfect for dressing up any spring or summer outfit.

Skill Level: Easy

Size: Finished Circumference: 22″

Gauge: 23 sts and 13 1/2 rows = 4” [10 cm] in Dc st after blocking

Materials

Yarn: HiKoo by Skacel Collection CoBaSi (55% cotton, 21% nylon, 16% bamboo, 8% silk; 220 yards [201 meters]/50 grams): #25333 Wisteria (2 balls)
Hook: US size C/2 (2.75 mm) hook or size needed to obtain gauge
Notions: Sewing needle, invisible thread, stitch marker (optional), tapestry needle

Pattern Notes

This pattern is worked in the round from the top down.
In hat, ch 2 at the beginning of each round does not count as a stitch.
In flowers ch 3 at the beginning of each round does count as a stitch.

Rnd 1: Work 12 dc in 3rd ch from hook, sl st to 3rd ch to join. (12 dc)
Rnd 2: Ch 2, 2 dc in each dc, sl st to ch-2 to join. (24 dc)
Rnd 3: Ch 2, *2 dc in next dc, dc in next dc, rep from * around, sl st to ch-2 to join. (30 dc)
Rnd 4: Ch 2, *2 dc in next dc, dc in next 2 dc, rep from * around, sl st to ch-2 to join. (40 dc)
Rnd 5: Ch 2, *2 dc in next dc, dc in next 3 dc, rep from * around, sl st to ch-2 to join. (50 dc)
Rnd 6: Ch 2, *2 dc in next dc, dc in next 4 dc, rep from * around, sl st to ch-2 to join. (60 dc)
Rnd 7: Ch 2, *2 dc in next dc, dc in next 5 dc, rep from * around, sl st to ch-2 to join. (70 dc)

Rnd 22: Ch 2, *2 dc in next dc, dc in next 10 dc, rep from * around, sl st to ch-2 to join. (120 dc)
Rnd 23: Rep round 12.
Rnd 24: Ch 2 Ch 2, *2 dc in next dc, dc in next 11 dc, rep from * around, sl st to ch-2 to join. (130 dc)
Rnd 25: Rep round 12.
Rnd 26: Ch 2, *2 dc in next dc, dc in next 12 dc, rep from * around, sl st to ch-2 to join. (140 dc)
Rnds 27-30: Rep round 12.
Rnd 31: Ch 1, Rev sc in first dc to right of ch-2 and in each dc around, sl st to ch 1 to join then, fasten off.

Flower (Make 3)

Ch 6, join ring with sl st.
Rnd 1: Ch 3, dc into ring, *ch 6, 3 dc into ring, rep from * 4 more times, ch 6 dc into ring, join with sl st to 3rd ch of ch-3.
Rnd 2: *Ch 1, (sc, hdc, 7dc, hdc, sc in next ch-6 sp), ch 1, sl st in next dc, rep from * 5 more times ending with sl st in 3rd ch of ch-3, fasten off.

Finishing

Block hat and flowers. Weave in all ends. Turn up brim 2″ or 5 cm. Using sewing needle and invisible thread sew 4″ or 10 cm width of turned up brim to body of hat, and attach flowers as desired.yarn ball
