Inspired by pink moon scallop shells collected from sandy beaches, this scarf brings together small and large shell shapes. The result is a breezy scarf that’s easy to make and easy to wear on morning walks while you look for seashells.

Gauge: 2 lace-shells and 2 dtr = 3.25”; 3 rows of lace-shells, including 2 ch-5 sp rows = 2” after wet blocking (Gauge is not critical for this project)

Yarn: Hedgehog Fibres Sock Yarn (90% superwash Merino wool, 10% nylon; 383 yards [350 meters]/100 grams): Coral (2 balls), hand dyed

Hook: US size E/4 (3.5 mm)

Pattern Notes

All shells are worked on odd numbered rows and designate the right side of the scarf. There are repeated rows of large lacy shell patterns, where I have used treble crochets separated with chain spaces between each stitch. Double trebles separate each shell. Rows of smaller shell patterns follow, with double crochets with no chain spaces. I used a sock weight yarn to allow maximum drape. Small shells are worked to create the trim around each edge. I made the scarf a longer length in order to give other options for how to wear it. There is a variety of stitch heights used to make a light and airy finished piece. You will begin the pattern from bottom and work to top.
