Textured Heather Scarf

This essential fall scarf is worked up in rows and utilizes decreases to attain its textured look. Long enough to loop around your neck, and with room to spare, this cozy scarf is perfect for any fall gathering.

Skill Level: Easy

Size: 7 ½” x 68”

Gauge: 5 row pattern = 2 ½”; tr dec, dc, tr dec, dc = 3 ¾”

Materials

Yarn:

Medium weight yarn Red Heart Super Saver (100% acrylic; 364 yards [333 meters]/198 grams): #0352 Ranch Red (1 skein), #0400 Grey Heather (1 skein)

Hook: US size G/6 (4.5 mm) hook or size needed for gauge

Special Stitches

Decrease (dec): Holding back last loop on each stitch on hook, tr in next stitch, [skip next ch, tr in next stitch] twice, yo, pull through all loops on hook.
Triple Crochet Decrease (tr dec): Holding back last loop of each stitch, tr in each of the stitches as indicated, yo, pull through all loops on hook.

Pattern Note

Scarf is crocheted in multiples of 6 plus 12.

Pattern

Row 1 (RS): With red ch 30, tr dec beginning in 8th ch from hook and in next 2 chs, *ch 3, skip next ch, dc in next ch**, ch 3, skip next ch, tr dec in next 3 chs, repeat from * across ending last repeat at **, turn.
Row 2: Ch 1, sc in first stitch, [ch 7, skip next 2 ch spaces and next stitch, sc in next dc] across to last ch space, ch 7, skip last ch space, sc in 4th ch of beginning 8 chs, on Row 1, turn.
Row 3 & 4: Ch 1, sc in first stitch, [ch 7, skip next ch space, sc in next stitch, across, turn.
Row 5: Ch 4, *work over ch 7 spaces of last 3 rows, [tr, (ch 1, tr) twice] in tr dec in Row 1, ch 1, dc in next stitch**, ch 1, repeat from * across ending last repeat at **, fasten off and turn.
Row 6: Join grey in first stitch ch 6, [skip next ch space, dec, ch 3, skip next ch space, dc in next stitch] across turn.

Color Scheme

Continue pattern repeating Rows 2-6 ending with Row 5 as follows: (grey, red) 13 times. Do Not Fasten off after last row.

Edging

Work along top edge ch 1 and turn (wrong side) sc in first stitch, sc in next ch, *sc in each of next 3 dcs, sc in next ch, dc, ch, repeat from * across and fasten off. (25 scs)
With wrong side facing work along bottom edge 1 sc in each ch across and fasten off. (25 scs)
