Woven Edge Winter Shawl

Thick and comfy, with visual interest from both the textured stitching and the pop of the accent color, this shawl will be your go-to for chilly winter days and nights. The soft, bulky-weight yarn makes it quick to stitch as well.

Skill Level: Easy

Size: Finished size = 20” x 56” excluding edging

Gauge: 12 sts and 11 rows = 4” [10 cm] in stitch pattern given

Materials

Yarn:

Bulky Weight Yarn Cascade Yarns 128 Superwash (100% superwash merino wool; 128 yards [117 meters]/100 grams): #872 Bitter Chocolate (MC, 4 skeins), #1960 Pacific (CC, 2 skeins)
Hook: US size K/10.5 (6.5 mm) hook or size needed to obtain gauge
Notions: Tapestry needle

Special Stitches

Front Post Treble Crochet (FPtr): Yo twice, insert hook right to left around throat of sc 3 rows below, yo, draw around st, (yo, draw through 2 loops on hook) 3 times.
Scblo: Single crochet back loop only.
Scflo: Single crochet front loop only.

Pattern

First Half

With MC, ch 56.
Row 1 (RS): Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. Ch 1, turn. (55 sc)
Row 2 (WS): Scflo in each sc across. Change to CC, ch 1, turn.
Row 3: Scblo in each sc across. Ch 1, turn.
Row 4: Scflo in each sc across. Change to MC, ch 1, turn.
Row 5: Scblo in first sc, FPtr in 3rd row below each of next 3 sc, (scblo in each of next 7 sc, FPtr in 3rd row below each of next 3 sc) 5 times, scblo in last sc. Ch 1, turn.
Row 6: Scflo in each sc across. Change to CC, ch 1, turn.
Rows 7-8: Rep Rows 3-4.
Row 9: Scflo in each of next 6 sc, FPtr in 3rd row below each of next 3 sc, (scblo in each of next 7 sc, FPtr in 3rd row below each of next 3 sc), 4 times, scblo in each of next 6 sc. Ch 1, turn.
Row 10: Scblo in each sc across. Change to CC, ch 1, turn.
Rep Rows 3-10 twice, then Rows 3-6 once more.
Continue on in pattern as established, eliminating color changes – with MC only, rep Rows 7-10, then Rows 3-10 five times, then Rows 3-8 once more. End off.

Second Half

Rep instructions of First Half.

Finishing

Hold two Halves together with RSs facing each other. With MC, sc the halves together, using only the outside loops.
Work 2 rnds sc around assembled shawl, beginning anywhere, and placing 3 sc in each corner. Join rnd withs sl st in first sc, end off after second rnd.
Weave in ends. yarn ball

    Look at crochet.com (same stuff as Knit Picks) Wool of the Andes or Swish are both available as superwash. The Swish is great, though a bit more $ Colors in the bulky are limited, however.
